In the Kershaw Onion designs?
I really like these models, esp. the Whirlwind with its upswept clip point. But when you forcefully open a linerlock with force, it can loosen it and also wear out the liner. Is this true with these knives, or are they somehow reinforced so this doesn't happen (to the stop pin and liner)?

Also, I am assuming one should avoid a dusty environment with these knives to protect the mechanism from clogging. Any one face this problem before?

Jim,

I don't know if they are "reinforced" or not but they are as tuff as nails.

My Kershaw Random Task has been my main utility piece for about a year now. I have opened and closed this knife a million times and have not seen any signs of liner migration, blade wobble, or torsion bar wear.

It sometimes gets dusty and gathers lint from inside my pocket with no ill effects to the torsion bar mechanism. I simply blow inside the knife a couple of times and is is all clean.

The only problem with these knives are the Qualty control issues. If you can, try and handle some before you buy and pick the best one.

If you get a good one, MAN WILL YOU BE HAPPY!!!

I swear I should be working for Kershaw with amount of recommendations I make for these knives

I had a friend who wondered the same thing...how long will this last. He cycled it about 100 times for a few months. The torsion bar broke and he has some major blade play. If you don't plan on cycling it this many times per day, you should be okay. I think Ken Onion wrote somewhere the the the torsion bar is stainless steel and that it should last forever...apparently forever is a subjective term.

I've had my Mini-task for a few months, and my Random-Task for about four weeks and have not had any problems yet...I don't cycle it 100 times a day though

Hope this info helps.
