How durable is the wood on customs?

I've been wondering about this for a little while, but I've never asked- (*edit* if I've asked, I was too drunk to remember the answer) How durable is the fancy wood on all of these new customs? All the new customs in the Ganzaa are totally beautiful and drool-worthy, but can they take a beating like a regular Busse? Or are they intended more as safe queens, leaving the real work to their less fancy brethren?

I have a Grex cultie with gorgeous wood on it, and I've been afraid to carry it for fear of banging up the wood. Has the wood been stabilized, and if so, how does it compare (durability wise) to micarta or G10? I'm thoroughly convinced of the durability of regular Busses, so much so that I just do whatever I want with them and don't think about it. But the customs seem like they might be slightly more fragile.

Has anyone really wailed on one of their fancy-wooded custom enough to find out how much abuse they can take?

Will the warranty cover you if you beat the hell out of your pimped-out custom and crack off and/or otherwise break the wood slabs?

It will last forever in your safe! :D

Wood shrinkage? Surely that must happen to us all with age no?

Having only been using/collecting Busse knives for a year I would say Jerry would make sure that anything leaving his shop is built to last. The customs might not be as bomb proof as the CG models but then what is.

Any knife with a natural handle is subject to the same warranty as a CG. In other words: beat it senseless, and if anything bad happens to your pretty wood. It's covered. :D

I do not believe that to be completely true... That question's answer is best handled by Jerry. You may want to call and ask him about the warranty as how it applies to natural handle on Busse knives.

Yes, the warranty can only replace an item with items in stock at the time so if there is no more of your wood on hand you might get compressed Clark Bar wrappers which are always on hand!!!

"how does it compare (durability wise) to micarta or G10?"

It just doesn't although wood can be very durable and long lasting comparing wood to these strong chemical resistant super synthetics (durability wise) is no contest at all stuff like micarta and G10 will far surpass wood in that area. However wood can kill micarta in the looks and natural warm feel department.

I was told that the slabs were covered by warranty. Of course, if they don't have that same wood in stock, then you'll hafta get something else. I actually asked this question before.

I carry and use my natural handled Busses without worry. The only major difference is that i won't throw them.

Stabilized wood is very tough! But not near as tough as micarta or G-10 of course.

I would think if you broke or cracked the Handle it WOULD be under warranty...as long as your not beating the handle or something crazy.
But dents, chips and the like would not be covered.

I personally would expect to have the warranty fully cover whatever happens to these custom handles. If this turns out not to be true I would take my business elsewhere for fancy boy customs...

I think I recall Jerry talking about this at Blade (Hard to say if it was then, the weekend is a bit of a blur!).

His comment was that the natural materials are not as strong as the synthetics normally used & that he hopes folks use of them would reflect that. However the warranty is still the same awesome coverage! :)
