Although it has not been my daily carry for some time my 25 year old Buck 112 still looks great. It was my daily carry for about 15 years. In that time I it was sharpened repeatedly, washed in the sink, and lubed with motor oil. Living in New England it spent plenty of time near the sea. I would also regularly remove accumulated lint, dust, and debris with a cloth. So how did it survive all that with out the latest high-tec Lubes, cleaners, air-dusters, hair dryers etc???

Having said that I am thinking of switching to tuf-glide, mostly to keep oil off my clothes while carrying.

I reckon your "lowly" 112 made it all that time because Buck makes a damn fine product and has forever! :-) What's your daily carry now?

I used a Spyderco Endura G2 steel serrated blade for 5 years as a project/ work knife that I carried and used in all kinds of
sh!tty environments (sand, dirt, grime, paint, debris, blood, grease, outdoor general crud). I used to clean it next to my G shock in the dishwasher and then use WD 40 in the hinge pin. I no longer work in warehouse nor in house rehab, but I still wash my Endura (different pair of them now) in the dishwasher and lube with WD 40. It rides better than my 112, else i may have carried that all these years.

I switch between a Spyderco Rescue and a BM Blackstar at work depending on what I think I'll be doing at work that day and the level of dress needed. Weekends I tend to carry a RAKAT UNK or Running Dog Lil' Pup.

I recently recieved a knife making masterpiece from a custom maker, an auto opening folder. What did the maker suggest as the best lube? A quart of 10-40 thinned with a bottle of STP Motor Treatment. Works fine, lasts a long time. Hi-tech, hi-schmeck.
