How fast can get your favorate knife open and out? Just was wondering:D bout 1 onethousand for me:D :D

I would venture to say upwards of three seconds for me.

That said, whenever I am somewhere where I have even an idea that I might need my knife I have it in my hand unopened (such as walking across Wally World parking lots....). Cuts the time dramatically!!!

With a balisong, the opening is half the fun (the closing is the other half). So why rush it? I can easily prolong my opening for five or six minutes.

3 seconds? I could open and close mine 3 times in 3 seconds.

I can get mine out, throw it into the air, do 3 backflips, catch it with my eyes closed, and lop of 8 people's heads in under 1 second. Maybe I'm not timing myself so accuratley, however. I just kind of count in my head.

Here's a thread that might interest those who have replied, or intent to reply, to this thread: http://bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=199957

Both replies are very sweet. I have NO illusions of myself as a bad ass knife fighter. In the event I would need to use it I would hope that my maniacal howl coupled with a blade in hand will do the trick.

If I get shot for my trouble or cut up... oh well.

I THINK that you ment to say "out and open", since "open and (then) out" could be pretty dangerous!.;).

BTW...I'm quicker than the Human eye can follow.:D..:D.

The proper answer is "Fast enough."
Although I have this strange feeling all over America (and the world) there are guys standing around with a stopwatch in one hand and their favorite folder in the other, timing themselves.
My Goodness, what will the neighbors think!?
"What's Jim doing over there, Ed?"
"I don't know, Martha, but we'd better keep those Band-Aids and Duct tape handy."

I can draw and open my Spydie Military in a little over a second. Fast enough to surprise a wannabe bad guy, unless he's got a gun. ;)

I'm with Joe on this one. I also have no illusions about deploying my knife within a 1 second time frame. I do think you need to be aware of the surroundings and what is going on. There have a few times that I have had my knife out but unopened in my hand during a late night journey through a large parking lot, especially when you note some of the characters in the lot with me. This would indeed cut the time in half if you were forced to open and use your knife as a weapon!

Thanks Art!

I didn't say it that way, but situational awareness is what I use more than any other 'weapon'. If the hairs on back of my neck get prickly, then knife is in hand.

I could have had a CHL. But a: this is Texas - it gets HOT! b: I sweat - HEAVY - I couldn't carry near the body c: I work outdoors at customer locations - bending and stooping - so no carry option looks right for me.

I use my knife to cut boxes, hoses, tie wraps etc. So it is a tool that can double as a weapon.

I have always tended toward calm in emergencies (three different car crashes for example) and I think I'll know how to act when I need to.

Heres hoping none of us ever NEED to!
