A thrift store has a few wood handled Tramontina kitchen knives. A skinner, a chef, and a slicer. I think they are seven dollars each. Used but in good condition. Im interested in the skinner. Are they considered good quality?
Tramontina kitchen knives are usually rather low quality, the ones I've seen anyway. I doubt new ones are much more than $7 each, and I would expect thrift store prices to be in the $1 range.
You should compare prices at Amazon and SMKW before plopping down $7 for a thrift shop user.
I am using Tramontina butcher knife with wooden handle in the kitchen and around the house for almost 10 years now.It is not to be compared to high quality knives, but it is easy sharpen, cheap, and I grab it without thinking for non knife jobs like kindling, stripping wire, cut through cardboard, etc.
Defenitely check prices for new before paying for used. A little while ago I pounced on what I thought was a good buy on 3 machetes. After I was commited to the purchase, I found that I could have bought new for the same price. Hind sight, and all that.
I have a 10" Tramontina Cook's knife(the one with a polypropylene handle), it has 12c27 steel, it comes sharpening at 15degrees per side and holds up very well to kitchen use on a cutting board, it's also a full flat grind and it grinds to a very fine edge.
