All the brands have to keep getting better and better so what will say, Leatherman do with the Wave or Charge in the future ..... well they could incorporate :-

SOG PowerLock style Compound Leverage Pliers
Gerber Legend style Spring Loaded Pliers
Gerber Legend style Replaceable Wire Cutters
SwissTool style Awl/Reamer/Punch
SwissTool style Chisel/Scraper ....

??

Possibly even bite into the SAK market by adding :-
Tweezers
Toothpick
Nail File/Cleaner
Mini Pen
Straight Pin
Magnifier
Corkscrew ......

??

Maybe stick a Mini Led Torch and Mini Lighter in there as well :)

All this of course while making the whole thing stronger and lighter by using space age materials and without making the unit much bigger than it already is :)

Oh and I almost forgot - keeping the selling price under a $100 bucks - Wooo Haaa !!

well perhaps leatherman can start putting al there tools on the outside so we don't have to open the tool anymore to get to the screwdrivers ,sciccors,...
like the swisstool and gerber legend.
By the way ,I think leatherman has done a really good job by entering the Charge Ti.I'm gonna get me one as soon as I can. :D

I'm hoping with Leatherman putting premium steel on their new Charges. they'll extend this to other models, other compaines will follow suit. Comfort has taken some strides with the more recent Leathermans too.

I really don't think putting SAK do-dads on a multi-tool is necessary. I've always thought as multi-tools as pliars with additional tools. Like a mini tool box. Whereas the SAK always seemed like a conglomeration of tools, grooming impliments, survival equipment, and conveniences. Like everything you've got lying around the house put into your pocket. I mean, if I need a screwdriver at home, I get a screwdriver. If I know I'll need a screwdriver when I leave the house, I'll probably take one with me, or at least a multi-tool. The SAK will work in a bind, but I'd rather have the real thing. So many of the tools on SAKs are like that. They're extremely handy to have since they put so much stuff in so little space, but they fall short of the real thing. Stuff like tweezers, toothpicks, and pens seem silly for a multi-tool to me.

Some SAK tools are just plain useless. I mean, who the hell needs a pharmacuetical spatula? Have you ever been somewhere and someone said "Damn. I left my pharmacuetical spatula at home, anyone got a Swiss Army Knife?"?

I've used the spatula before to separate small objects into piles. Tiny screws, for instance.

I think I agree with the sentiment that better designs on the pre-existing Leatherman format and improvements in materials should be the focus. I don't like the idea of adding lights to tools. Truth be told I don't think most people would appreciate the "handle tools" of an SAK on a multi tool even if I do admit it that is an interesting idea.

I wonder if the pocket clip will ever fully invade the multitool world like it has the knife world.

God I f'ing hope so.

Thought I'd add these onto the list too :)

SOG Paratool style Angled Plier Heads
SOG Paratool style One-Handed Flip-Open Pliers
SOG Paratool style Adjustable Hex bolt construction for customization and cleaning of blades
SOG Paratool style Smooth, comfort grip handles

And how about if they made them completely rust-proof !!

Maybe even extending their 25 year warranty to a lifetime warranty .... just so they can stand equal to Victorinox etc.... :)

hey man,u are a tool freak!!!! :D btw,i believe they is no metal in the world that is never rust....... :(

As you probably realize, something must be sacrificed for rust proofing a metal, whether it be quality, hardness, edge retention, etc.. You can pay 600 dollars for a knife made of the best steel and still have it rust or pit if exposed to the right circumstances. The claim should also be changed to rust resistance becuase i am sure given a prolonged exposure to moisture or salt water and signs or rust will start to show. IF anything at all, it may be a coating that they put on their steel that will wear off or be scratched off over time. I don't have proof of this obviously, but its just logic, if every manufacturer could make that claim and not sacrifice any quality in their steel, why wouldn't evey knife be rust proof!

Of course man !!! We're all tool freaks on this forum or we woudnt be here !!!

I reckon the biggest change will be customisation. I know Gerber tried it for a while without much sucess but in the future I can see a few more desighn your own type websites for making your own tools.

Yup I hope they do and sooner the better !!

Although if they started that, I cant see why people would buy their other "standard" models so maybe losing the ecomomies of scale they need to keep prices low ??
