Looking for a full size pe Calypso> How hard is it to find these days?
please advise ,any help appreciated.regards,Rick.

The Spyderco I most regret selling. Bought it for $52 on clearance. You'll likely pay a pretty penny more if you find one. Good luck.

Now and then, they show up on eBay. The last two there went for $158.25 and $205.50.

One just sold the other day on another forum that I missed by a few minutes. $110 too. What a deal.

It is getting tougher all the time to find one. 2 of them I sold this last year really blew my mind. Because both guys I sold them to ended up using both of them. One of these guys won an old original "R" model on Ebay and he ended up using it as well. I even told him how rare both models are but he said he liked using them.

Not what I would have done:confused: . But with that being said I am sure there are fewer and fewer of them every day. They do pop up on Ebay every now and then but you got to watch like a hawk ;)

I understand the "use it" mentality. I steadfastly resist becoming a collector of knives. I already collect too many other things. Knives are tools to me. I just happen to have a lot of them that I use.

If I don't use a knife after a while, I generally sell it. That's why the C54 went away. At the time, I just carried a number of other knives and saw little need for the Calypso.

At the moment, I carry a couple of slipjoints that many folks would consider to be "drawer queens" or "safe queens" or whatever. I prefer to carry them. I bought them to carry. It only makes the other pristine examples out there more valuable, I suppose.

Don't know if you want to take a chance in getting it across the border, BUT, I was at Target Knives (www.targetknives.com) a couple of weeks ago, and I think he mentioned that he had one or more left in PE, IIRC. Actually, he had a couple of other oldies there that I noticed, Green Chinese Lum, Lum Tanto were two that I noticed. Might be worth giving Rowland a call. Sorry, can't recall pricing.

Hope this helps - gord

I had one in PE. It was a really nice knife. I got it for about $80 IIRC and traded it for something that I can't recall. It is the knife that I most regret getting rid of as well. I don't why I traded it but it was not because I didn't like it or that it was too expensive. I just wanted something new I guess. I know I didn't get much for it so in a way I am kicking myself.

I am of the user school as well. All my knives are users not safe queens. I don't collect objects just to put them on a shelf and look at them. What bothers me is that so many of the best users are also the ones that become the collectable knives. I know some people that will use a $500 pocket knife but that is a little steep for me. I don't feel comfortable using anything over about $150. Beyond that, I would hurt too much if I lost it. If I don't use a knife or can't bring myself to use a collectable, I generally swap it for something I will use.

Guyon I do totally understand your position. YOu don't even know how many Spyderco knives I have gotten 2 of so I can collect one and carry the other. I do collect but I have an arsenal of "users" as well. To me the C-54 just simply epitomizes what a deluxe pocket knife should be. Just to look at the C-54 big Calypso demands my respect. So I guess I do indeed understand your position fully. I carry everything from Hawkbills to Yojimbos. I even have a Benchmade I carry occasionally. Oh!! how I would love to have a used C-54 to carry:>> Then I wouldn't feel so guilty :o
