Got an itch for a Gladius... I'd really like to see what the Kamis could do with the pattern, Kumar especially. Its not an overly complex pattern and I think it could be done with their usual steel stock and make quite a fine sword.... bout 24 to 30 inches overall.

Could you commission a true one off like that? or is it too far outside bounds to really be a serious thought?....

Seriously, tell me YOU wouldn't jump at a HI Gladius with a good solid 24 inch blade....

Only Yangdu would have an answer for that. It might take awhile depending on what they have going on and other orders.
I have no doubt they could do it, they never cease to amaze me with what they can create.

I'd send a picture of what you have in mind to Yangdu and see what she has to say about it.
 
HI makes several blades and swords in a gladius type pattern so I'm sure they could. It really depends on the shops current work load.
 
Gladius Hispaniensis replica would be nice to see.

I would echo what Mr B said. It never hurts to ask, whether they can at this particular time I have no idea. I am guessing they are sort of recovered from the earthquake, but I don't even know which Kamis are still working full time/part time/have gone walk-about... But Auntie would be able to figure out if they could add something like that to the current workload.. and yeah, I would be ALL over one if they were available and I had the funds. What a great mental image to day dream too.
 
There's no question that the kamis could make a great Gladius, if they have the time. The closest thing to a Gladius among the traditional HI models is the Manjushree "Sword of Wisdom". The blade shape and handle are somewhat different, but if anything the Manjushree would be harder to make because of the fullers and the elaborately carved handle. No doubt they could make a Gladius! Id say Kumar as well but Yuvraj or maybe even Lachhu i bet could make a nice one as well. Id like to see that!
 
I've had many special orders over this last year, all came out better than we expected. I'd say go for it.
