Hey!
smile.gif
I'm doing a research paper for my internal business class on "how the internet has affected the knife business." Please tell me what you can about how the internet has changed the way you do business. Details would be great!

If you prefer to not post here for any reason please email me. Thanks!! Your help is much appreciated.

I don't mind posting an answer to that question here. Basically, it's MADE my business. Without the internet, I never would have gotten Gurkha House off the ground. How many of you, for example, would have had as thorough access to info about Gurkha House if you had to call or write me for info. That is, there would be no collective knowledge to instantly draw from.

Also, it keeps people honest in the business. There is NO WAY that I could exist if I were a liar or a cheat. My reputation would be tarnished instantly, and I probably couldn't recover.

It's also cut down on advertising and communications costs. But that gets into my business plan, which is SECRET!

I'd ask any customers/friends here to comment on how the internet has affected knife buying - the other half of the equation.

The DARPA Net has opened the world of business.bg`s don`t last long, because it is easy to spread the word.More than one dealer can no longer sell to anyone.Customer satisfaction is a requirement to do business now.
Hey!is no address for a lady.Disregard if not applicable.

I agree whole heartedly with Craig and Ghostsix. As a consumer I need only watch, read and ask the right questions to learn the reputation of a merchant or quality of the wares he/she offers.

Knife buying for me, thanks to the internet, is now more a matter of informed choices than the old method of trial & error.

Two other things that the internet has done to e-knife commerce:

1) It has broadened the selection that a customer has. Ten years ago, it would have been impossible for me, having never actually been to Nepal, to reliably import khukuris. Try sending a letter to Nepal or talking on the phone - and you'll know what I mean.

2) It has lowered the cost of doing business and the profit margin of knives sold. Good for the customer because he/she pays lower prices, and good for the seller because he/she sells more knives. In a nutshell: the market won't tolerate over-priced items because it's easier for a customer to get more information on a "good price."

Liz,I`d like you to add this question.I`m a COL.,and a Marshal;no one in their right mind would cheat me.I can hunt them down. There is a little matter of interstate commerce which gives jurisdiction. If I can find criminal behavior, the F.B.I. will be happy to kill them resisting arrest. This is not J.Edger Hoover`s FBI ,of accountants and lawyers;these are stone cold killers;ask Lon Horiuchi. He will plink a babe from his mothers arms at 300 yds with a 3X9 scope,or just put a bullet in Mom`s face, just because Rogers OKed it, and he likes to hear the sound of his gun.The woman is no threat.Just a target that we like to see turn into mist in the scope. He doesn`t care.If the BATF could shoot, they would beat them to it.They have no ethics at all. They don`t even have substandard credentials.Believe me the DOJ and the IRS will torture you worse than I.How does the net help the common folks? It does. You can certainly complain to millions.I prefer to do my own work, but I`m lazy,I might call the pros. What is a dealer going to do now?Shoot it out,or be ruined.Best not upset powerfull cutomers.

Well now.
That is one of the MOST bizzare posts I've ever read here on the Forums.
ghostsix what exactly are you saying/implying with this post?
This looks particularly hostile and you should perhaps clarify the above statements as I, for one, do not see what relevance your statements have in this thread.

The individualist without strategy who takes opponents lightly will inevitably become the captive of others.

Gawd, I should hope not. It'd be like a PR firm hired to convince the world Mike Tyson *isn't* an out-of-control lunatic. Ain't gonna happen.

First, to Lizabelle,

I apologise for missing one particular posting near the end of this thread and hope you will not judge us all by that one disturbing entry. We strive for better things here.

You came here seeking information. Most of us who replied did so in an honest attempt to assist you in your research. Please feel free to re-open this, or any other relevent topic on this forum at any time. Ask as many questions of us as you see fit. We are here to share knowledge and to learn.

Second, To Ghostsix,

Colonel, I choose to believe that your explict and disturbing post above was an attempt to relay your beliefs of, what many consider to be, a prevalent mind-set in some sectors of American Law Enforcement. If this is the case, and I have read too many of your other postings to believe otherwise, It would be better suited to one of the many Conspiracy or Human Rights forums found elsewhere on the net.

Your presence and wisdom are welcome here. Graphic descriptions of murder and death are not. The young lady came to us looking for help in her research. Let's provide her with that.

Well, Blackdog said it - any more from me would be superfluous.

One agenda at a time.People become disoriented if forced to think too much.Oil and card the liquid oxpho Blue in between applications.Serious degreasing is not necessary.Hot water and soap works fine. How many thoughts is that?

Jim,

Maybe it's me, but I can't find any humor in your posting above. A member being banned isn't a joke by any stretch of the imagination.

Ghostsix was a frequent visitor to this forum. Although his choice of words was sometimes unfortunate and he could teach or infuriate with equal regularity, he always made us think. I find it sad that a man with so much knowledge did not take more time to reconsider the down-range effect of some of his postings.

Regardless of what he said or how he said it, Ghostsix was always treated with respect on this forum. That's not about to change just because he's not here to defend himself.

As far as I can determine, this is the only forum where you chose to post the above "joke". Why don't you try posting it on one of the other forums that you frequent or moderate. Maybe it will get a laugh there.

Actually, I posted in some other threads including here: http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum32/HTML/001038-2.html

G6 made his own rep, here and elsewhere...I posted that pic at some of the more extreme threads and certainly didn't single out HI. There's one on Donna's forum in the highly unpopular "stabbed a gook" thread, she said in EMail that Vampire Gerbil must be rubbing off on me. Anyways. It's perhaps a slightly bent form of humor but...hey, if you can't laugh at a disaster like this, how can you handle life?

Jim

Jim,

I thought Ghostsix being banned was kinda sad. Then again, there are things that I find funny that would horrify most people. Humor comes in a variety flavors.

As for handling life; I do it one day at a time my friend, one day at a time.....

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

And Ghostsix - If you're out there watching - Happy Thanksgiving Colonel.

Blackdog

It was sad. We agree. Humor is often stress relief, or at least that's how I see it.

Happy vacation all.

Jim

I like Blackdog found G6's banning rather sad (but given the circumstances, necessary). I wish G6 the best, and hope he understands why he was banned. Maybe someday he'll find a home here again.
