How has your mule held up?

My teenage son had been wanting a larger pocket knife ever since I got my new Adamas to EDC. He handed me some cash he had saved and asked me to order him a Zombie Mule. I knew this was the knife he was wanting and did a little research on it. He buys a lot of knives right now based on looks. Well, I guess that probably still plays some part of it for all of us. I bought all my son's Beckers for when we go out in the woods hunting and camping and he has become a big Ka-Bar fan.

So was just wanting to ask, how has your Ka-Bar Mule been holding up? What do you use it for? How do you like it?
Thanks

I have the black KABAR mule and I'm a big fan of it. It's a very heavy/thick folder... in fact it's so heavy they included this carrying case to loop through your belt.

In terms of how durable it is... I haven't really thrashed on it. It was razer sharp out of the box and I've had no issues with it. This knife is the closest thing to a foldable KABAR usmc that I've ever seen.

If you were outdoors or needed a very sturdy knife, this would be one of those knives. It's really built tough.

I have the exact one in your pic. I love it, but its almost too big for in the pocket comfortably, IMO. I have found that I carry it more either on my belt, similar to my beloved Buck 110, or attached to the webbing on my pack. For the money, its a great piece, and yes, call me a dork if you want to, LoL, but I think the zombie green is cool!

The green definitely makes it harder to loose! It isnt for everyone, There are those who like it, those who hate it, and those who understand what having a bright green knife does for you... In a world of wood and black knives everywhere... its nice to see color every once in awhile.

My oldest is 15 and loves anything in neon green, yellow, orange etc.... I have to admit though, in person, it is kinda cool looking.

I have had a Mule for years now. It is easy to get razer sharp. It's tough as hell. And it is inexpensive enough that I don't worry about moderately rough use. Yes it has noticeable weight but I got past that long ago. If given the choice between hard working a Mule or an Endura, it is hands down Mule for me.

If I go back to a folder, the Mule will be the one I go to. I love the "Look" of the knife. And I think that in these rare cases, like the Mule here, the "Look" also translates into "Comfort and Functionality."

Hmmm... I'll chime in. I lost my kabar mule, although, I did have one for over two years, during which time I used it for a long range of uses. Just before I lost the knife, having grown aggravated with the serrations, I had decided to replace it -- and test the old one. Amongst those tests was battoning wood (unlocked, of course), battoning wood (locked, light whacks, and far from the lock joint), dug a hole through a 2x4, hacked through a 2x4, drove the point through granite, blunted the edge on granite, busted through concrete, used the lock bar (where it is exposed for pressing) as a ferro strike, and much more. After all of that, I restored the edge to shaving sharp in a matter of minutes. It locked up tight and well. I've even cracked nuts with the end of the handle.

Also, I would recommend the plain edge over the serrated. The mule's steel can easily take and hold a hair-popping edge. I often zipped it through pizza boxes, cutting two or three boxes at the time into slivers just to test the retention. After the slicing was over, usually over 1,500 cuts, the edge was still shaving sharp. Overall, if your son treated the knife with care and respect, I see no reason it wouldn't last a lifetime or more.

Bump-
My Godfather just got a Mule yesterday. This is some folder!
Great job, KA-BAR!

The MULE (Military Utility Law Enforcement) was designed to be the folding version of the Fighting/Utility knife. It is the most robust folding knife we make, and like all our products, covered with our lifetime warranty. No matter what he decides on I hope he enjoys it.

Great comparison pic, OP. Damn, I need a MULE now :D The poor man's(thats me) Adamas.
But why oh why is the the desert handle version only available with serrations ? :thumbdn:
AUS8 is such an awesome steel to sharpen, you don't need serrations

Rolf,
I really appreciate serrations for their cutting performance, especially on tough materials.
I do like my partially serrated Rat-1 a lot, and I am tempted by the Mule. I am still looking for a good price though, one Ebay seller here wants almost 100€

Regarding your earlier post, there is a tanto version with G10 handles. Only available in 3CR13 though, from what I've seen

Regards,
Chris

Thanks, Chris!
A Tanto?! I'll go look.
lmk if you get your MULE! Good luck!!
