specifically, is having it at 350 degrees for roughly an hour and a half to hot?

started making sheaths for the ak47 and realized that i couldnt pick the blade up with my bare hands. i just want to make sure im not messing anything up with it.

300 is actually closer to what it was at. our oven is a little lax with what the temperature actually is vs. what it says it is.

Seth, do a search on this. Jerry made a post on this very question. I believe it regarded concerns with the Micarta. If I remember right the temp was well above what you stated before any effect on the temper of the blade. I believe it was in a recent thread.

I asked a similar question, a few years ago, and the answer I got from Jerry, if I'm remembering correctly, was that INFI could safely handle 900 degrees Fahrenheit (!) for an hour with no damage to the temper, but that the Micarta might not be able to take prolonged heat over 250 degrees.

P.S. Have you moved to the Monterey Bay, yet?

As for INFI and temperature extremes, it is amazing. INFI is tempered at nearly 950 degrees. It does not begin to lose any significant hardness until it is held above 1050 degrees for a considerable amount of time. I have to believe that it would need to be extremely mishandled in order to do any noticeable damage.

Most of the simpler high carbon steels (of which INFI is NOT a member) can be drawn down in temper in a matter of seconds if the temperature hits above 500 - 800 degrees.

I am sure the crinkle coating in the blades is baked on at a 300-400 temp, so you will be fine.

Hmmm, how much Temp can resiprene take before it melts?

awesome.... then there should be 4 ak47 pants coming onto the market within the next week. we havent moved yet, im scheduled to move on the 20th-23rd of january... hopefully we will have a place by then :)

i would not take micarta over 300, it won't melt but it will warp sometimes.

250 will be ok with no effect.

Hmmm...I dunno.

I've had a howling rat bounce off a tree and land in a campfire once. It was in there for a little bit as I couldn't stop laughing. Didn't do any noticeable damage though.

This is freaking amazing! I'm beginning to think that the next step up from an INFI blade would be a "Light Saber"
