How Important Is It To You....

to buy knives made in the USA? And if it is, or is not important to you... why?

It all depends on the quality.

I'll buy and support American industry as long as the quality is the best for the money. I'd estimate that 90% of my knife collection is American, with the remaining 10% being Japanese, German or Swiss.

I stay away from China, but not for any political or anti-communist reasons, it's all about quality. If a Chinese knife that I really liked came along that was of higher quality than an American made knife, what would be the point in buying American? Why buy a lower quality piece for the same money just because of a MADE IN USA stamp on it? It's silly.

Same with cars. I drove a Ford for a long time and loved it. But the first time I drove my Subaru Impreza I said no more American cars.

But that's just me. I love my country and will support it, but I won't waste my hard earned money buying something of inferior quality just because it's American.

It makes me feel good that production knives I like are made in USA.
But I would buy a knife I like no matter where its made.

If its not made here, I won't buy! I don't care what the quality is, I have gotten rid of all my knives that I had collected over the years that were made elsewhere.

its good for companies to compete but they don't have to go offshore to be competitive. I want my hard earned cash to feed american mouths and fund american companies.

I like to buy American, but the knives I like are mostly Japanese-made. It's kinda unfortunate.

Another reason to look at handmade/small makers. Alot of times i have been surprised how affordable they can be. And i like to support "the little guy".

Well, 43 out of my 46 knives are American-made, does that tell you anything?

I strongly support American-made products (and not just knives). Quality has a lot to do with it, but I'm also very much in favor of keeping my American dollars in America.

what samael said. i try to buy everthing 'made in america'. i do have a couple of knives made in tawain (crkt) and a couple from germany (puma).

I buy custom knives (And CRK's), and I have knives from makers from all over the world.

I wont buy a knife that is made in the USA just because it is made in the US; it has to be a quality knife. I do like to buy well made, made in USA knives to support the economy. However, I will buy foreign knives as long, as they are not made in china (for the most part) and I liike the design. If I like two knives' designs equally a made in the USA stamp will be the deciding factor (that is why I bought the grip before the delica).

Your saying US knives, are not of good quality but you buy them to support the economy? That's a pretty different point of view. What USA made knives have you had problems with.

I will not buy a knife made in China. I will trade if it's a nice enough knife. For the most part, I'd rather my knife to be made in the USA because of the better quality. But most of the time, I cannot afford American made knives, So I look at knives from countries such as Japan, or Germany.

I prefer USA made knives, but I will carry a good design from any country. But it is the design and not the price differential that I am after.

Say I had two equivalent designs. If one were made outside the US, and one were made in the US, I would buy the US-made, even if it were more expensive.

But I carry some knives because I like them and in spite of the fact they come from outside the US. The Benchmade Monochrome is in that category. If I could find the same design with the same blade alloy made in the US, I would pay the difference to carry it.

It is very important to buy American but it is hard to find a company that is all American. It seems everybody is getting their stuff made overseas and normally I would not care too much but alot of those same companies market as "American"
