I just modded a knife and the detent is MURDERING my thumb. I tried to sand the detent ball to make it stouter but that didn't do anything. I oil it and that helps a lot but only for about 5 deploymets.

How would I less the detent if the only thing I can do is work with the ball of the platform the ball is on? I think I have to sell this knife if I can't figure it out.

You could break the edge of the hole that the detent ball goes into with a dremel so it is easier to overcome, and/or take it apart and try to bend the locker so it exerts less pressure. But both have risks. What mod did you do, is the lock titanium or steel, and how expensive is the knife?

Those are pretty much the only methods that I know of.

Some knives Bending the lockbar abit to relieve tension works to weaken the detend but ruins the Lockup.

It's a 400USD knife and I ended up pushing the ball more in to the platform using a vise. It sure works, the knife has less assist now but at least I can open the damn thing. Sanding the one side of the ball down did jack squat.

The platform is nameless stainless, the bearing is 52100, the knife steel is s110v, the actual scale which the lock is of is Titanium.

Ya I'm not bending this lock bar as the scales are etches and would ruin the pattern.

Thanks for the suggestions, I like to talk about this stuff even though I found a solution already.

Detent modification by bending lockbar, pushing detent in or out, modification to the detent hole. These are generally the things I see. I've even heard of some folks replacing the detent ball and or modifying the detent hole in the blade for it depending on what's needed.

Example of lockbar bending... Which btw isn't a good idea on all frame locks cause it can crack and break on some models. Ti work hardens and too much bending is not idea. If the lock is thin it can also easily break.
