jus wondering about this steel, never used it wanted to know how it performs,

Alittle better then 440c.

154cm and 440c are two of the few stainless steels I trust in fixed blades.

It would probably make a fantastic skinner, as it's both corrosion resistant and holds a fine edge well, and a utility edge very well.

Well that really depends on the blade, heat treat, and grind.
It holds an edge decent and isn't too hard to sharpen.

Hell yes. Great steel. The US version of ATS-34. Many many a fine knife made with this steel.

It's not the fanciest, latest steel ... but it'll hold its own and has withstood the test of time.

One of the best in my opinion -for a hunter, if not THE best.

Makes an excellent skinner. Does not make a good chopper.

The edge retention is
about equal with VG10 and ATS-34.
a bit better than 440C.
well above AUS8, 420HC, and 440A.

alot will depend on heat treat

also lest make sure we get this right 154CM came first then ats34 was a copy then cpm154 is the new CPM super clean run that is like rwl-34 (all have for the most part the same allow make up)

i love cpm154 in the kitchen and in most knives that are needed as SS
its clean and fine grained and when heat treated right (for the blade use ) can be great

154CM is my favorite stainless. Tough, good sharpenability, stainless, able to develop a very fine, polished, razor edge.

154cm is my favorite steel... holds an edge as good as I've ever needed, and it is not ridiculously hard to sharpen! I tend to choose a knife based on design, and because of that most of my knives are CPMS30V, which is awesome, but I prefer the sharpen-a-bility of 154cm/ats34. Microtech had the heat treat down PERFECTLY on it... I'd like to try a benchmade with 154cm.

Dam good!

ATS-34 is the Japanese copy of 154-CM. Not the other way around. The Loveless Shop, and I use 154-CM, ATS-34, and on rare occasion, BG-42.

I have never had a job that 154 couldn't handle and handle well.

A buddy of mine has a swamp rat in 154cm, and he loves that knife. I think my next knife will be 154cm.

I have no problems with 154. I agree with whats been said about correct ht, and that is true of any blade steel. I have it in my ZT0500 and the ZT is my edc.:D

I've heard people say that it's an alright steel but I for one love it, both of my Emersons are 154CM and my Buck Tempest is the same steel with the BOS heat treat it's awesome.

The CM stands for Climax Molybdenum Co who developed it .Rights were then sold to Crucible . It was then improved by making it by the CPM method .CPM154 is a favorite of mine , liked by makers also.
