How is Black DLC applied to knife handles/blades?

Just out of curiosity I am wondering how knife makers and companies apply the black coating to blades and titanium handles. Is it like powder coating? Thanks for your answers in advance

Research IonBond they do the DLC coatings for alot of knife companies

It involves a large, very expensive piece of equipment.

It is not like powder coat or paint.

I believe it is Vapor Deposition.
