I was working on making a milling jig for a one-off knife for a customer.
Tried tapping the 3/8" steel plate with my Procunier then tried using a T-tapping chuck...broke 3 taps by then.....Then went to my Higgins tapper.
Worked fine...no broken taps. just well threaded holes....
Made me glad to have what Jeff made....fine tool!

Last I read, Higgy was working with a Harley dealership. Has anyone heard from him since then? He doing OK?

Please, if you are lurking, Jeff, "speak up". If anyone else has talked with Higgy, is he doing OK?

I miss the days when Higgy and the Brownsville, Maine-iac, and IG, and Fitzo, and other makers posted alot.
To y'all.....

I checked Higgy's profile, John. It says the last time he actually "logged on" was 11-13-07. That would have been right about the time he was due to return to work after his bike accident.

I miss that old crew, too. It was a spirited bunch, wasn't it? This place had a sort of "image" as the "biker bar" of the knife forums, and yet one of the best places for technical answers. :) Naturally, people change with the passing of time, and come and go. I think the nature of the forum has changed quite a bit over time, too, and the type of questions and topics. Certainly, the social atmosphere is not the same.

Sometimes I feel wistful; mostly, I just feel old. LOL

I know what you mean Mike. I think that old spirit died when off topic posts became a no-no.

And just where is Higgy ? :)

IG, you'll always find someone to pick on! :D But I admit, some may not be as much fun as others.

As I dropped in here occasionally over the last couple years I noticed that a lot of the "old timers" weren't around anymore. And a couple of the "new guys" got under my skin - until I reminded myself what I was like when I first came around... :o

Mark, at least BF gave us Around the Grinder for those off-topic posts and general misbehavin'. I think that was a stroke of genius.

Anyway, I think nostalgia is for old folks! I may be getting a little long in the tooth (literally - my gums are receding faster than the rest of y'all's hair) but I'm not so old I'm wishing for the good ole days just yet. In fact, I'm hoping to see the Singularity. Think of all the stuff you could make if you were immortal! :D

Don't write Higgy off just yet. Those old pennies have a way of turning back up... ;)
