I was just looking at a Mayo'd Sebenza on the exchange and the seller implied that the action was smoother and lock-up more solid than on a normal Sebenza. Is this true? If so, specifically what is done to improve the action and lock-up? Thanks for your time.
Specifically, you would have to ask Tom Mayo that.
My Sebbie (Lg Classic BG42), was Mayonized in '04, or '05. I really don't remember. You sent your knife and IIRC $75 and Tom did his thing.
What he did that I can see: 1. Satin finished the top part of the blade (flats), left the rest stone washed. 2. Installed double thumb studs with the off side stud being smaller and both flat checkered rather than the pointy one that came with it. Never liked that pointy one. 3. Did whatever he does to the action and lockup, making the smoothest action I've ever seen smoother. I can also thumb the blade open as slow as I want and the lock still engages like it should. No need to snap it open. 4. Put an edge on it that was not to be believed (Tom also had at that time, a commercial sharpening business. Perhaps still does). 5. Drilled his famous holes and flamed the Ti. The holes are still there. The flame is pretty much gone as the knife has been on my belt ever since I got it back. 6. Of course, reversed the screws.
The hole patterns varied quite a bit, but mine are almost like the one on the exchange. First one that I have seen that was so similar to mine, but still not exactly the same.
Funny thing is, you get so used to the holes. I was looking at a Seb at a gun show and asked the guy what it was.

Had mine on my belt and didn't recognize a un modded Sebbie.:foot::foot:
I guess Tom quit offering this service in order to keep up with the demand for his own knives.
Remember, this was a $75 service. It was more cosmetic to make the knife more unique for its owner than any large improvement in function, lockup or the like. Kind of hard to improve on a Sebbie as it comes from the factory.
