we've all heard bad things about microtechs warranty, but how is it when it comes to manual folders?

any experiences?

The warranty is the same for all their knives. That's the best way to put it, lol!

Why would you think there is a difference in service quality in service between autos and manuals?

One of the dealers I've talked to say the average wait time for knives they've sent in for customers is 8 months and thats after several dozen phone calls and emails.

They may repair your knife if you were important, like a Dealer that they need to keep in good standing.

If you are an individual and have no "name" in knife circles, you may as well circular-file that knife.

As stated, the warranty for a manual is the same as for an auto model with the exception of getting it back. Unless you are LEO or Military, Microtech will not return an auto model to you directly, but will send it to an authorized (direct) dealer that you choose and the Microtech dealer will ship it to you.

My experience with turn around time is 2 weeks or less with models that are currently being made. Now, the problem is some of the older models that have not been manufacture in years tend to take a lot more time. Why is this? I'm not sure, but I'm guessing that parts for the older models are not just laying around and readily available for a quick repair......this is just my guess.

Between me and my buddies, we own several dozen Microtech knives, the few that we have had to send back with issues have always had a decent turn around time.

It's definintely not a secret, a bit of reasearch can yield a ton of reasons. Automatics are touchy because they are illegal in more places than they are legal. Shipping them for warranty is restricted to LEO/AD Military. As others have stated, aside from above, there is no difference. The reason as to why it may take a lot longer to reapir models that have been out of production for a while, is because they have been out of production for a while. There are probably no parts readily available, so they have to make some. Try searching the forums for "Microtech Customer Service". See what you get.

My two experiences with Microtech's customer service were nothing short of phenomenal. I cant see how some one can say its non existent, obviously youre doing something wrong. I got my RA # the next day after filling out the online application, sent my knife in, got a knife received email, then a couple weeks later got an e-mail with UPS tracking # for my knife shipped. In between all of this Laurel followed up nicely on its progress. How can you ask for more!!

Good to hear, but you have to understand thwt according to quite a lot of people, it was not always that way. That is why people can and have asked for more.
