How is Smith & Wesson's 440C blade?

I noticed that Smith & Wesson sells very cheap knives with 440c blade, like the Frame Lock and the Cuttin Horse.

Anyone has experience in the 440c blades of this brand? How is the heat treatment?

I have owned two smith and wesson knives now, both the tanto frame locks. I picked up the first one because it was on sale for like $20. I thought the knife would be somewhat junkie and it would be something just to tide me over for a while. I tried for two years to tear that thing apart, I've used it like a pry bar to get the tusks out of hogs (let nothing go to waste,) used the frame as a hammer to repair fence; the knife was tougher than a coffin nail. Then some SOB stole it from me. So I found a good deal on another. I will say this, the knife was tough and it held a decent edge although one long weekend in a extremely humid place put a little rust on my new one. That is mostly my falt though, I hadn't put any lube on it for a while. For forty bucks I say pick one up, Any more go and get a benchmade or spyderco

Ya' git whut ya' pay fer! (most of the time) :-)
I'm not sure about that $40 comment though....I have a "Cuttin' Horse" given to me by my boss and trust me.....the thought far outweighed the monetary value of the knife.....$7 or $8 as best I can tell from internet searches.
So far it's cut nothing and lies in the bottom of a briefcase with its brethren.
I don't mean to come off as sounding elitist but after going to Blade '02 and spending $1200 of the $3200 I brought with me on a total of 3 knives (2 Sebbies and a Strider) I guess my perspective got warped.....or as I prefer to think of it....I became enlightened!

I have been selling the Cuttin' Horse range for a while now and carried the SW007 and SW008 to test them out. I found them to whole their edge pretty well. Once I had profiled them to my satisfaction I only used a smooth steel on them. I will say I believe the lockbacks are sturdier and safer then the liner locks which I understand are being discontinued.

I have a SWAT model which i bought because i got a good deal. However it is really a good high quality knife. The blade seems to take an edge easily and hold it well. My only complaint is about the black coating on it. It has come off pretty badly over time, but all things considered i would definately pay full price for it.

I got a S&W that was supposed to be $60 for a whopping $16. I overpaid.

I have 3 S&W knives (a pair of HRTDR's and a stainless frame lock), and I have NO problem with any of 'em. They are all SOLID knives, and the 440C seems to hold up very well.

I've got a large SWAT for about a year now and I've got nothing bad to say about it. Is it the best folder ? Not by a long shot but it breaks up my EDC rotation every now and again.
