I got a cts xhp manix yesterday and now I'm on a spyderco craze. I've been looking at the orange millie for a while now but haven't gotten it for two reasons.

First I have to carry my knives tip up and I would have to drill holes for tip up carry if i got one.

Second, I have a tenacious and I have never even carried it because the liner lock on it sucks. I know it is a lower end spydie but I was shocked at hour easily I could disengage the lock just by squeezing it. This and my experience with CRKT knives has made me extremely skeptical of liner locks in general.

Is the lock on the orange millie solid? has anyone ever had it fail while in use? And the ti version looks great but its a bit out of my price range.

The lock on the Orange is the same as other standard Militarys. It a very strong liner lock design and tests out extremely strong. I consider it one of the best liner locks available today.

This one is hard to answer.

The military in any color has a fantastic liner lock. I would presume that it is among the top examples of a liner lock (any brand knife). I would go further to say that you will not defeat the lock under normal or even hard use/abuse...You may break something else, but I doubt that the lock will be the first or second thing to go.

OTOH, YOU may be the type of user that is prone to accidental disengagement of this lock type? I have no doubt that some users frequent certain twisting motions, and certain anatomy/ergonomics that could release this lock...but the same would be true of many other lock types.

I suggest finding a person that has a G-10 military and trying it. Or just buy one from one of the fine dealers that offers a return policy (just do not use the knife...you should be able to get an idea of how you interact with the lock just by handling the knife).

It really is an outstanding knife for the money. But no knife will be perfect for everyone.

I've had 6, and yes lockup us great on all of them.

I don't like orange, and sold that one. But that was the smoothest military I have ever owned. Not sure if all of the Oranges where that way.

Orange won't be made after this year(in millie), so I would snag one if I where you. I think you'll like it.

As for the Tenacious, the cut out for the liner lock is set up deeper than other knives. That does not mean that it sucks does it? I gave half a dozern last year for holidays, and every person I gave one to has all their fingers so, must not suck as bad as you suggest.

The Military has the best liner lock in my opinion. It's basically on another level from others. If there ever was one that failed, you would have heard about it by now. As the other members have stated, the knife is fantastic in any color or configuration. The Orange Military won't be around long as it is on the discontinued list for 2011. Get one if you are interested. :)
