How is the lock up on the BM 910HS?

Anybody have any experience with this knife?

It has awesome materials for the money, M2 tool steel, G10 scales with titanium liners, for about $100 bucks.

Just wondering how well the liner lock on them is done. I have no problem with liner locks as long as they are well made, and I haven't heard anything either way on this knife.

Anybody?

Until recently, my BM910 HSSR was my primary EDC for several years. I bought it shortly after becoming a member here (along with a few Spydercos) before going a few years without additional funds to buy more blades. Last year I started to increase my collection exponentially, but my 910 still gets carried frequently. It was my first "high-end" production folder, I wanted to see the difference with a quality steel blade vs the cheapies I'd grown up with.

The lockup on mine is still strong, I've never had a problem.

Here is a picture the most recent picture of it I have that I took 5/10, the day I received my SRKW Howling Rat:

As you can tell by the state of the Benchkote, it's been well loved. :D

Thanks for the input, that is good to here.

Now that I look a little closer, the M2 versions are pretty tough to come by. That is disappointing, but I can always go with the D2 version instead. Its cheaper, and I am not a huge fan of black blades anyhow.

I have had 2 different BM 910's that were not good. Both 910's would unlock or get really loose in a white knuckle grip.

I no longer carry either one. One was sold to a left handed person and they knew the problem that I had with it. The other was just put away.

It's really a shame because I love the blade shape and the handle and the G10. It's awesome. The lock just isn't for me though.

I own the 905 (little brother of the 910), and the lock has never given me a problem. Granted, I don't perform any of the common lock strength "torture tests" with the knife, but my experience with it has been very positive. My only complaint is that BM didn't offer the 905 in M2, though the 154CM is perfectly good steel.

I EDC'ed a 910 in 154cm for a few years before i lost it. It was a good knife and served me well. I have never had a benchmade unlock on me while i was using it.

ginshun,

I don't own a Styker, but I've seen a few. The lockup was simply perfect, I wouldn't hesitate to use one as an EDC.

You still can buy the M2 versions from European online stores, but it would be quite expensive for an American.

I also have a mini-Stryker. EDC'd it for years before I started rotating my carry with other models.

I never had any problem with the liner lock with this model, or the BM 690 that I've also carried.

As mentioned above, the M2 version might be hard to come by. D2 ain't anything to sneeze at, though.

I've owned several full-sized & mini Strykers, including a chisel-ground model (ground on the proper side, I might add). Unfortunately, I've found what Joe Dirt stated to be true. In a white-knuckle grip, the liner-lock releases. Needless to say, I don't own any of the 910's or 905's anymore. I say, try before you buy.

Best wishes,
3G

The first 910 I bought was my EDC for over 5 years, and it was only retired because I was afraid of losing it. My tastes have changed a bit now so I don't carry one often, but I have bought two more because it is still the knife I turn to when I want a mid-sized, heavy duty (for my uses, anyway), easy to carry knife. I would definitely recommend it!

i have had about 6 strykers thru the yrs, and 2 mini strykers and the lock up on all was fine.

i have rarely heard of folks having problems with BM liner locks FWIW,

905 and 910HS, no problems in any grip, white knuckles or not.

Very good lockup.

Didn't BM change the lock geometry at some point?

I was under the impression the newer knives locked up "better" due to this.

I've had the 910 for years and found it to be one of the most comfortable carry folders. Its one of the smoothest opening knives I have.I never had any trouble with the lock but I never used it for real heavy duty work or was in a position where I had to "white knuckle" it.I would reccommend it.

i dont think so, 2 of my 910's were prototypes and they locked up fine, some of the others were later models, they locked fine too.
