Looking for some feedback on how the new vice has been working for guys that have it? Is it worth upgrading to? Are you finding it easier to clamp ffg blades and getting an evan bevel? Thanks for any feedback.

What were the alleged improvements in the Gen3 clamp? After I bought my WEPS, I sort of tuned out and just used it. Suddenly, it seems like there's all sorts of changes to the platform.

The most drastic improvement is that it clamps each side equally whereas on the original clamp the left side was locked in place and the right was floating. Secondly, it makes for quick clamping w/ the use of one rotation of the lever. If you are an occasional or home user I wouldn't recommend spending the $ as the old one works just fine. But if you do a lot of knives it is very nice. I don't see myself going back to the old one (although I still have my other WEPS set up w/ the gen 2 vise) unless I need it for limited applications such as straight razors or large knives w/ thick spines.

Mine works much better now that I have moly greased the cam surfaces and shielded them from debris including magnets. Also keep in mind that debris can fall down through the center of the vise via the relief grooves. I've also taken a step to alleviate that.

The cam surfaces will gall inmediately without grease. Mine did but functions fine now with lube.

As Josh said, one limitation of the Gen 3 is the inability to sharpen knives with wider blades. For that reason, after upgrading to the Gen 3, I made a few extra buys and now have both Gen 2 and Gen 3. With the Gen 2, I can sharpen very wide blades that will not fit into the Gen 3 vise. And at the present time there are no add-on devices that will enable that to be done on the Gen 3. The high angle adapter is great for small knives, but so far no adapter for large blades.
