How is the warranty process?

I'm tired of having a ton of blade play in my vantage pro, and also one of my pocket clip screw heads snapped while holding the clip.
I've read the warranty process on their site, but I was wondering hows the turn around as this is my favorite knife :). I was going to send it in a padded envelope. I'm not sure what type of USPS service I should use for it? Also, do I have to pay for return shipping if so do I put the money in the envelope and how much?
Should I get insurance also?

Choc, I'm sorry your Buck knife is not up to specs . Send it to Buck in a small cardboard box they have them at the post office with a letter as to whats wrong . No return shipping is needed and I'm not sure of the turn around time . But now is better than a month back during the rush . I would insure it . No worries, they will make it right with you . DM

HOW TO SEND YOUR KNIFE IN FOR REPAIR:Tell us who you are and what is wrong with your knife.Let us know what you think is wrong with your knife. Include your name, address, phone number and email address. Wrap your knife securely. Before you ship your knife, please make sure you have cleaned it thoroughly, removing all traces of game remnance. Please put each cleaned knife in a sheath or wrap in cardboard to protect it during shipping. Pack it so the point will not cut through the packaging. You will get your sheath or cardboard back upon return. Packing up your knife. We prefer that you pack your knife in a box. A padded envelope may also work if the knife isn’t too heavy or bulky. Be sure to put packing around the knife so it sits securely in the package. Shipping methods. We recommend that you insure your package and send it by a certified receipt that can be tracked if necessary. This will help protect you against possibility of loss or damage to your knife. Note that knife loss, including shipping to and from the Buck factory, is not covered under warranty. Send your packaged knife to:Buck Knives

Sorry to hear of your problems! I love my Vantage!!!!!! I would definately use a box and insure it! I used USPS priority, its reasonable and the box is provided as David said. Just a guess but i would say 2-4 weeks. Mine were back within that time period.

All of the knives Buck sends me says BKI instead of Buck Knives. They need to modify that.

I believe Joe and CJ both have talked about not using KNIFE in the address as it could promote theft.

I have heard that also, but never had any problems. Besides who would want to steal a knife going back for warranty work  I would prefer the new one leaving the plant myself :D And that one has Buck in the return address :D

Maybe address it to Joe??? :D

Over the holidays I had 2 knives in for minor warranty adjustment. It took about 3 months turn-around. That was during the Christmas crunch. More recently I had a knife in for refurbishing and it took about 2 weeks.

I always have sent it addressed to Buck Knives and never worried about it. I always insure it so if it is lost I can replace it with something like it, or better if it is a discontinued model.

I've never had a problem with their warranty and repair workmanship.

I sent in a Ranger with a defective lock on 2/3/10. Not back yet. Took over 60 days to replace the handle on a 102, but that was over the Christmas rush/shutdown and they had no cocobolo handle material in stock. But it was basically a new knife when it came back. Worth the wait.

It took about 2 weeks for Buck to send me a new 450 Protege. Always great service from the Warranty department.

OK I sent it Insured VIA USPS with Delivery conformations tracking said ti got delivered to them at 3/1/10 when Should I expect it back?

Keep it on topic please guys ;) just because one of the people in this thread likes to derails other thread doesn't mean we all have to get blind sided.
Buck recieved it 3/1/10 I'm guessing I should recieve by 3/14?

I don't know if I would expect it that soon. The service time really seems to vary.
I sent two 110's in for spa treatment about 6 months ago, and it was 7 weeks before I got them back. Hopefully you will get your back quickly...

No way to predict how long it will take, because it all depends on what's wrong with it and what the backlog might be on that particular problem. All you know for sure is that they will most likely do a superb job. I always say I'd rather wait a little longer and have it done right.

Hi ChocoLoco,

Sorry for the name twist, I just could not help myself;). I can't answer how the warranty work will go on your Vantage Pro, as I have never sent one in for repair or service. However, I can speak to the warranty work done for me. I have sent in two knives over the years that needed work as a result of abuse and expected to pay for services rendered. Both times Buck fixed the knives to as new condition and would not let me pay for the excellent service my knives received. I hope your experience is as good as mine have been.
