How is this done?

I have noticed in multiblade two ended knives that the smaller blades are bent so as to enable them to nest neatly side by side.

I am wondering how this is done. Are the blades forged with a bend or are they bent before the heat treat or are they bent while the knife is being put together?

It seems to me that the best way to get the best fit would be to do it when the knife is being put together but I am not sure if a hardened blade can be bent.

Any input would be appreciated.

I believe they are shaped before heat treating, this bending is known as "crinking".

Not sure how it got that name. A funny story, a pal of mine recently told me he passed up on a Case knife that he could have got 75% off because the store salemans told him the blades were bent.

He is very new to knives and was not happy when I told him they are supposed to be that way. He missed a great bargain.

Typically they are ground for the accomidation rather than bent.
