How is this knife?

http://www.kershawknives.com/productdetails.php?id=8

Is it a good knife for the money? Or should I be looking at something better?
I like the looks of it, so I want a blade similar to this.

Is this knife good for self defense or using it in tactical fighting situations? Not that I would ever use it for that in less it was self defense, but at least I want to know the knife would be good in those situations.

One of my first posts here, so I don't know the rules for asking questions like these, go easy on me :)

Hey Eddie,

Welcome to the faura.

The knife that you want is the best one for you...for the money of that knife I would get a Manix or a Skirmish (better steel, better lock).

Eddie, welcome to the forums, a search on the 0200 should gather you some threads that will get you started. I'm sure others will follow with opinions on the actual knife.

Chef, you held a 0200?

Well those knifes cheaper or same, but for sure ZT200 has noticable advantages - 3D handle much more comfortable that rectangilar in crossection Manix and of course Scrimish which has no scales. Manix has backlock - it is considered by many not as good as liner and also less convinient - require two hands to close knife. And personaly I do not like frame locks except one on ZT300 with that safety thing.

I may understand some excitement about this two very good knives but realisticly ZT200 is in diferent league in terms of production complexity, ergonomic, functionality and performance.

Steel is well known I would say proven for many years steel it has less wear resistance but better edge then CPM S30V on my opinion. Anyway, only because of this steel this knive is awailable in price range of Manix and Scrimish see - ZT300 almost twice more expensive. Difference for regular use I think will be almost unnoticable.

It is not as sexy as ZT300, but for sure hard working one.

Thanks, Vassili.

Are they as available as Manix or Scrimish?
I guess Tomas you should make them more available for general public. They are great knives not only for military and LEO.

Thanks, Vassili.

I had no problem getting a ZT and would never trade it for a Spydie or BM, EVER! you can buy them on this site, thats where I got mine. Production knives for sale by individuals. You can also get them from Tadgear and bladeart's website. Not one of the places I have mentioned requires you to be a LEO. The lock on the ZT will never break unless you get a defective one wich you would be able to notice. The pivot would simply break first IMO, these are beefy locks (of course frame and liner locks should be inspected for wear). The flippers are great. The steel is top notch, cpm 154 is not the same as 154 cm. The 3d texture on the G-10 is second to none. I would not hesitate to buy a 200.

One thing I am concerned about is the weight, the 0300 series weighs 8.6 oz, some have said its to heavy to carry daily. What do you think, will 8.6 oz be too heavy for everyday carry?

I am carrying ZT302 in my pocket from the day I bought it, I guess it is matter of personal taste. It is big knife - to carry or not is up to you, but at least there is no anything which prevents it physcally - it can fit standard pocket.

Thanks, Vassili.

I carry mine daily, I wear jeans that fit me and are not too loose or tight. I hardly notice that it is there. You would not want to carry it with dress slacks on though.

I have a ZT 0301 & a ZT 0200ST. Both are large folders & fit in my pockets just fine. I've always carried medium to large folders for EDC & am not bothered by the size. The ZT series are great knives for the money. I picked up my 0301 slightly used for $200 & got a good deal @ the local gun show on my 0200ST for $120. They both are very comfortable in my hand & good performers as well. Shop around for good deals, they're out there to be had.
