buying a new knife? (OK, it was a cheap lead-in, but you're here, right? :D) I find that no matter how hard I try, I NEED to get a knife at least once every other month. Typically it's one per month. When I do decide to save for a few months for a "special knife", it just about drives me crazy (I usually end up buying some cheaper knife to hold me over). You guys that only buy one really expensive knife per year must have the patience of Job! Anybody else have my problem?

Mark,
It's like you can read my mind. Same thing here. As soon as I get a little cabbage together I start thinking "I can buy that right now".
Tough to stay on track for the big buys. There is so much excitement in knowing a new blade is on its way. Then of course the fondling, carrying and using of the new addition.
Good luck....

I've gone three or four months at a time. But when that happens I end up buying three or four the next month to make up for it, so it evens out.

I buy one knife about every two months. I would say the longest I've went without buying a knife was three to four months.

Two long hard months. Sometimes after work I'd want to get a bite to eat, but I decide that the 5 bucks that I'm gonna drop on a meal are gonna help me get a new pointy toy.;)

I'm relatively new to custom knives & can say I fooled around with putting my knife ideas on paper for about a month before contacting a knife maker to make it. Then waiting about 5 months for the finished product. Had all the patience in the world until I was notified "the knife is in the mail"! Then the real excitment begins waiting for the package. I have another knife in the works - should be hearing soon on that ship date. I've just spent the last month on the computer (in a spreadsheet program) defining & refining my latest knife ideas so I guess I might be a 2-3 customs/year guy. Take care & enjoy the wait!!!

Seems like I am getting a new knife about every three to four months. I tend to do lots of research prior to making a purchase.

I can go as long as it takes to save the money I will need to get the knife that I want. I start to get the itch right after receiving my latest prize, but I tend to be able to wait until I can afford what I want.

I don't buy alot of NEW knives (retail, etc.), but I do alot of "knife trading". I was sort of adding-up all of the $ that I've spent the past couple of years on shipping costs alone, and damn...I COULD have bought myself a couple of brand-new fancy CR Sebenzas, etc., with that "shipping money"!.:(.

So, how long can I go without buying a new knife?...I dunno, what 'cha got for trade???.:D.:D.

This is a tough one. I had a major financial setback after 9-11 and had to cancel all of my custom knife orders, due to a lack of funds. Because I was dealing with makers who were friends of mine they not only understood they told me they would make my knives and to pay them when I could. I couldn't do that because I had no idea when that would be. So it looked like I was in for a long dry spell. I took the time to think about what I really wanted for my collection when I got back on my feet. This was time well spent. I don't have a lot of knives and of course I see knives every day that would be fun to have, but nobody can buy them all. I think the time spent thinking about the right next knife is far more important than how frequent they arrive. The last knife I got was a Camillus Fisk/OVB and the knife was well worth the wait.

I've got a new job now and I should be out of the hole in a month or so. The first thing I did was to contact the makers I had to cancel knives with and tell them I would soon be back on schedule. With any luck at all I should have the knives by the end of the year, depending on their backlog. These knives will be very special, and it will be over a year from the time we first discussed them and delivery.

How long can I go without a new knife? As long as it takes. ;)

My current budget is for $100 a month on knives ; I am eyeballin'
however the Spyderco "Civillian" G-10 for $120. But that's in the
months ahead ; right now the "concentration" is on the Tim Zowada
C56 ( by Spyderco ) for June.

So many Spydies, So little money!

About once every other month if I am lucky!:)

Also, I can't count customs becasue the wait between order and recieving is way longer than two months for most that I want.:D
