How long do sanding belts last?

depends on lots of things.
belt material and how it's attached at the ends.
the abrasive you're using - aluminum oxide, silicone dioxide, etc...
what grit you're using
what you're sanding/grinding
how hard you're pushing
and how long they've been sitting on a shelf being exposed to humidity and temperature extremes. my experience with this last is that after 12-18 months in a non-environmentally controlled (heated and cooled) shop, the glue on the binding tape lets go.
