I dunno, maybe I have super soft facial hair (or my shaving cream kicks ass) but I seem to get months out of my razor blades. Granted, after 2 or so weeks they don't seem to be as sharp as they used to and it isn't as close of a shave, but it's still pretty smooth.

How long are you suppossed to use them for?

When I was using a Mach 3 razor I would find myself using a blade for a pretty long time. Probably months sometimes. At some point it might have seemed to really drop off in performance, or I just thought it had been awhile since I changed it and just changed it to change it.

I have a feeling those 3 blade razors, like a Mach 3, last longer than lesser blade razors as the first blade probably does most of the work and dulls before the following two. Once it's dull the 2nd blade takes up more of the work, and finally the 3rd. At some point you might be shaving with just 1 sharp blade, and then once that starts dulling you really notice a performance drop. Just my little theory. :)

I know some people change their blades every 1-2 weeks. They are pricey though so I always tried to make them last, but for sanitation reasons it's probably better to change them more frequently than 2-3 months or something. :)

I really never know when to change the blades, so what I started doing was every time the shaving cream can runs out I change the razor blade. Side note, I think I get a closer shave with the double bladed razors than the 3 bladed ones. After I run out of the 3 bladed ones I'm sticking to the doubles.

I use a Mach 3 turbo and change it every other week. Once the blue strip wears off, you're supposed to change it, but you could probably get twice the time out of it. Probably the most important thing to do is cleaning out the space between the blades, (I use an old toothbrush). Also, if I skip a day on the weekend, I like to use a fresh blade, because that's the best shave you're going to get. Don't worry Spark, as you get older, you're beard gets tougher and your skin doesn't, so you start changing blades MUCH more frequently, the closer you get to the big 4 0! :grumpy:

i find that while i am still reasonably young by many folks' standards that mercangel's post about the hair being tougher than the skin definately rings true. i have a hard time using a manual razor without having nasty outbreaks/razor burn, though i am told that people with similar trouble can often get away with using a mach 3, provided they change the blades very frequently. since i'm slack, i'll probably just stick with the electric for now.

mine last 3-4 months....

but they only see limited use once a week.... :D :p

I have some pretty coarse facial hair...tears up the blades something fierce...

Gawd, I wish I could even go half as long as y'all. I'm lucky to get 3 to 4 good shaves out of a Mach 3 turbo blade. But then again I also burnt out my first electric razor when I was 12, so I guess its all relative.

Same here. I like the Mach 2 better than the Mach 3. It does seem to give a closer shave. I don't think its the number of blades that makes the difference. I think it's probably the design of the Mach 3. For me at least, it follows the contour of my face and neck too much. This probably results in less resistance, and a less close shave.

That's alright though. The Mach 2s are cheaper anyway.

I also seem to get 2-3 months of use out of my razors. But then again, I'm 27 and still can't grow a full beard. :D

I use a double edged razor and get good mileage outta Gilette blades mainly because I sharpen before each use. I have a handful of the old time roller strops and they work great!
And then again, I only shave from May till September. :-)

3 months from a Mach3 no soap but I normally shave in the shower last thing before getting out so its really softened up. I am fair haired too so I dont know if its finer but if I look closely at my wiskers they are colourless (white) Red, brown and black!! Can you say 'Mutt' lol

I feel your pain BurkStar. I'm lucky if I get a week out of one. Sometimes there seems to be a pack where all the blades last a couple of weeks but on average I feel enough razor pull after 7 shaves to toss the blade.

Well, as far as razor blades go, I prefer single edged American Safety Razor brand as they are the most flexible and best edge holding blades out there. I get a few cuts out of them depending on what I'm doing and then they get thrown away just as soon as the corner starts rounding off. I probably go through at least a box of 100 per week and maybe two if I'm hanging a lot of commercial vinyl.......

Oh, this wasn't a thread on paper hanging? ;) :p

I get one to two weeks out of a Mach 3 razor. I cant even imagine what my face would look like if I tried to shave witht the same razor for 2 month

I use Gillette sensor/excell blades and get a week or two out of one blade. I don't shave week-ends and the "return to work" shave kills the blade. I could probably get more shaves out of one blade but I don't like going over areas a second time. ;)

I only get about 4 shaves from my mach 3 blades, but I just ordered some cryoed ones from greatrazors.com Hopefully It will extend blade life.

I get about 3-4 weeks out of my Mach 3 blades. Even then, I only change them out b/c the time thats passed and no other reason. I am sure I could get several months out of them. I conduct a standard shave with gel on Mondays and dry shave the rest of the week

I probably shave every 3 days even though I'm looking pretty scruffy in between shaves. Use a Gillette Sensor with double blade after about 5 minutes all lathered up with shaving cream. When blade starts tuggin' at the beard, I make sure I wash my face with soap before lathering up - get another couple of weeks use out of the blade that way! All in all, probably use the same blade for about 2 months. Never did 'buy' that advertising about 3 blades are better than 2!

I'm always amazed by guys who say they get a couple of weeks (much less a couple of months!) on the same cartridge. I think my problem is I have tough hair and very sensitive skin. I change the cartridge as soon as shaving starts to irritate my skin. A week is about right, 10 days is pushing it.

Usually I get 2-3 shave from a razor, but the MachIII must use better steel or something, because I can get 6-7 shaves of them.
