How long has the Vic Cadet been around?

I'm curious on when the first version of the Cadet came out for the fist time? I'm thinking about the one with a small blade instead of the file as on the present ones. When did they change, by the way?

Regards Erik

I like the size of the Cadet, but prefer a pen blade over a nail file. I will have to keep an eye out for one with the pen blade.

The Recruit and the Cadet are the same 84 mm size, the recruit has the pen blade, the cadet has the file although I understand at one time the Cadet did come with two blades, Cadet II perhaps. The main issue with many of us is that the Cadet is only scaled in Alox and the Recruit is only in plastic. Seems stupid of Victorinox since there appears to be a decent market for both scaled both ways and the tooling is already in use to do both in either scale.

I really like my Recruit and miss my Cadet but, yes, I'd certainly grab an Alox Recruit. 😎👍

I had one of the Cadets with the pen blade in the mid-1980s. Surely wish Victorinox would go back to that configuration.

It's the Recruit today; large and small blade plus the openers. I's my EDC, just wish it was available in Alox.

It make no sense they would sell loads, many of the older versions are popular and would sell as well.

I'm another person who prefers that old Cadet II with the pen blade over the current Cadet with the file. (I like having a Victorinox file with me, but I always carry a Minichamp that has all the file I need.) Here's a photo of a Cadet II I have (thanks, Ken).
