How long I must soak these stones?

10 minutes is enough? Maybe 5 minutes? I could not find a definitive answer, even at the Suehiro website. I'm talking about the Suehiro 300 (grit #320) and the Suehiro Splex SP-10 (grit #1000).

I'm sorry if this is a newbie question, but after all I'm finding a lot of controversy about soaking times, and no specific info about these two stones.

I'm with Timmy, I use water with a few drops of Dawn soap stirred in as a lube, and let em soak till the bubbles stop. If bubbles are still coming up then you may have dry areas, and when the bubbles stop, water is no longer being absorbed so why soak further?

Generally unless warned not to soak them (splash and go) it is safe to just leave them in a bath all the time, change the water every week or two.

Other than that, yes till the bubbles stop.

If a stone is not magnesia bonded, you can permasoak.
The general rule is no more bubbles. The more often you use the stones, the less it dries out and the shorter you soak (assuming you don't permasoak).
But your usage will show if that is enough.

Until the bubbles stop... and if you decide to remove it wrap it in a small microfiber to dry, this prevents damage to the stone from uncontrolled drying.

If you perma soak a stone then the only concern is to change the water weekly so it doesn't get funky.

I have had about 4-6 various waterstones on perma soak for the past 7 or 8 years, a pain? I don't think so because I'm not waiting 30 minutes for a stone to soak so I can continue sharpening. I also sharpen a lot more than most so that plays into it a bit too.

Thanks for the info. I only do sharpening now and then, so the permasoak method is not for me. In each session I need to prepar the sink and gather the blades; so, if I soak the stones before all that, no problema. For those who do sharpening frequently, permasoak seems to be the best answer.

The microfiber tip is great. A special thanks for that.
