How Long Is This Knife?

I just got a Swamp Rat Knife Works INFI Bandicoot. The cutting edge of the knife descends slightly less than 3.5 inches from the tip; but the exposed metal unsharpened finger choil part of the knife continues for another inch, before it becomes the handle. So, for legal purposes, is this knife less than 3.5 inches, or is it 4.5 inches?

Also, is the length of a knife measured along the edge, around the curved belly, or is it measured in a straight line from the tip?

Thanks.

As far as I know there's no strict standard. It's really up to the discretion of the arresting officer... hopefully he's a reasonable person. Basically, if they want to screw you they will but generally speaking, just the bladed part matters... for example, a scapel.

Xian,

Thank you for the response.

Does anyone else have specific legal code, court rulings or other precedents, anecdotal tales, or whatever else, to share about the subject?
