Seems I fall into the 6 month category. For that period, I ...care...for the blade. You know. Sharpen after every rubber band cut, wipe spotless after salami, test edge 4 times daily, keep lightly oiled, clean gently with Q-tip, resist opening boxes, look for ANOTHER knife when stuff needs cutting.
Then after the 6 month honeymoon, begin just taking it out an cuttin any ol thing and sharpen when it quits cutting.

:)

usually ends up about 2 days before it starts seeing regular usage. Even on my 1-2yr users I check the edge 3-4 times over a day. I oil about once a month, when I sharpen. Serrated are a 3-4 month sharpen.

only have 1 knife right now thats not seeing work/yard use. My xmas gift to myself, micarta dyad jr. Thats gonna be a dress knife. I use the kiwi.

Once I get more familiar with the overall feel of the knife, I use it for light chores (usually a couple days). Once it gets its first scratch, it becomes a user.

As soon as I take it out of the packaging it goes into EDC rotation with the rest. :)

it goes into EDC rotation with the rest

Icon of Sin, impossible! We knificionados use EXACT terms. A ...rotated....EDC can't exist!

It would then become an "every OTHER day carry" or ...EODC

or

taken to logical conclusion, it could end up as EO7thDC..and so on.

This bears examination.

:D

thats why I rotate the 1 carry. everything else is edc... same carry, same spot, every day.

The EDC rotation exists! It was started by British knifeknut musicians, The Beatles, with their song "8 Days a Week".

Taken to the conclusion you're making, no EDC knife exists as there were days before mankind existed. Mankind, as you know, is made up of "mank" and "ind".

If I could open the box the knife came in with the knife before I took the blade out I would.

I treat them all equal right out of the gate. If there is a shortcoming I wanna know. I bought my BM AFCK and found out real fast that ATS 34 wasn't as stain-less as I expected, but it held a helluva edge.

Knives were meant to be used, the only exceptions I have are my Sunday knives, Pearl Handled, or Stag handled these I treat a little kinder.

I rotate knives. It could be the tasks at hand, whether I work white-collar, or if I'm in sloppy weather. When I ride this new Harley (whatever it is, I'm vassilating again), I know it will be a Buck 110; to do otherwise would upset my balance on the bike. After a few decades of a Buck on your hip leaning into a turn, it becomes sacred ballast.

Besides, the more diverse chores we attempt, the more knives we need.

edit: Heavy fog and a light drizzle in Madison tonight, 01-02-04. I felt very well outfitted with my All Weather Companion and a E1e H2 Surefire getting us through the parking lots. I'm amazed how that little light just cut through the haze!

When I'm in my car making ribbons out of the receipt or bag it was placed into!:D

At least I wait until I get into the car now. Wasn't always that way!:p

I am one of those who would love to open the box the knife came in, if that were possible. I just settle for a little bit of what Dayuhan does. I reduce the packaging to easily manageable recyclable ribbons.

Hi,

I use it as soon as I got it out of its Box :) .
My EDC depends on what I'm doing that day.
For Example normal Schoolday : Little Folder (BM 855-03 or Kershaw Scallion) and a Tool (LM Super Tool 200)
If I know I have to cut heavy things or I'm outdoor I take a fixedblade or big folder optional.

Greetings
Olli
