how long will the spring last on a kershaw blur if i just flick it open repetedly for say, 30 minutes a day?

Might do a search in BF, for "broken torsion bar" (include the quotes). LOTS & LOTS of discussions on the subject, I think you'll get an idea.

Not very long at 30 minutes at a time! You will build heat up in the spring-just like bending a piece of stiff wire back and forth at the same spot.

That makes sense. I have a few AOs (couple of Kershaw Leeks among them), that I used to fiddle with in the same manner. Usually after a few repeated cycles, the action would slow down significantly; it'd get very mushy and sometimes wouldn't even fully open the blade. I'd put the knife down for a couple or three minutes, then try it again, and it would all-of-sudden seem normal again. Didn't take long to surmise that something in the action was heating up and then cooling off. 'Work hardening' in progress, I assume. Changed my mind about relentlessly opening/closing these knives. It didn't seem quite so fun anymore, once I knew I was likely shortening the life of the spring.
