How Long??

Daniel- I was curious, how long does it take to make a folder? I think a maker said it took two days for him.
So basically, how fast can a folder be made?

I'm not that fast yet so one takes about three+ days. ~30 hours but I'm still learning, my first fixed blades took that long as well.


If I'm doing a batch I think I could do 3 in 7-8 days.

I could see two days being possible if you didn't really count heat treat or with batches.

I'm about to see!

I'm going to figure out a better way to change out my mill tooling and get a tap-matic, between the two I will knock some time off of my total...


I'm sure some guys can do one in a day and I see other knives that must have months in them too.

My revolutionary design (that's right revolutionary!) can be used with out the lock for cutting around corners. Plus I only use the finest door hinges available at Lowes!

Being able to build a folder in 2 days probably does not mean he builds a folder every 2 days.
Also, I think there are a bunch of knife hoarders out there...

There is a lot to it, knowledge and setup are both very important along with experience. All three will help with speed.


I am always happy when I see another maker doing well, most makers make less than the person bagging your groceries. You might be surprised who!
