The wife and I decided to drive into town yesterday for a bit of lunch at the club then a short drive to a small village not too far away just for the hell of it. Anyway, while I was sitting in the car waiting for her to open the gate it suddenly occurred to me that, as a matter of sheer conincidence, I had enough knives with me to start a small show. (Well, almost ...).

Without actually intending for it to happen, I had, either on me or in the car, the following items with a blade:

Swiss card.
Leatherman micra.
Small custom fixed blade.
Large Leatherman multitool.
Cricket SS
Rainbow Chive
Small Sebenza
Spyderco Ladybug (On keyring)
Spyderco SPOT

Probably slightly more knives than I actually needed! I generally have no more than two or three knives with me at any one time.

How many knives have you found yourself carrying around at any one time but without necessarily meaning to have so many?

Am I a little weird?

Damn, I was going to put it there first, but then decided it was probably community stuff. One of these days I'll get it right. :)

(Sorry)

Somewhere between 7 and 9, I like to carry a few small slipjoints. :)

I don't think I know you well enough to answer that question.

My EDC has gotten smaller with time. Now, my Hideaway Straight and Large Sebenza Meltdown cover everything pretty well.

Of course, you will find me with a SOG Powerlock, Leatherman Micra, Vic Mini Champ, Benchmade Benchmite, Rinadi Enigma, and Atwood Prybaby...

Multitools don't count, do they? I mean, they're not knives, they're for breaking things! :D

A long time ago (1970's) I was out of town and was surprised to find out that I had to give a presentation so I checked and I had a

SAK
Produce knife
small fixed blade
enameled pen knife
balisong
boot knife
and a Buck 110

so I went out, bought a large fixed blade, and gave my presentation on my strange hobby

Yep, God love ya! ;)

To answer your question: I start feeling a little... odd when I exceed three on my person. However, I find that three covers almost any need. For example, the three I have on me now are:

SAK Swisschamp (EDC, 24/7)
Large regular BG42 Sebenza. It's "top of the pile" because I've just done a (for me) good sharpening job on it
Spyderco Harpy, 'cos it's the latest addition to the stable (thanks, Nathan S)

When cycling, the load is:

SAK as above
Spyderco Ladybug on the emergency neck chain
Leatherman Sideclip for repairs/adjustments

Come to think of it, I believe that three may be a "magic number"!

I always have at least a large folder from my EDC rotation, and my multi tool. If I'm at a horse show a lot of times I'll carry both of those along with a small folder I made with a special screwdriver for making adjustments on bridles/saddles. So I guess no more than 3 is the norm.

Now if you count whats in my truck while I'm driving, then the other day going to work....I had a large framelock I made, a combo edge BM 806 (started the day with the framelock, meant to switch on the way to work but left the first one in my pocket when I picked up the 806), my multi tool, a fixed blade hunter I made was in the glovebox, and a hatchet was behind the seat.

Usually two ,a Swisscard and a multitool( Wave during week and Juice or Squirt on weekend) Plus extras in truck and each car is equipped.

G'day,
I nearly always have a small slipjoint with nail file, my Jeff Angelo, a Leatherman Wave, and one more that is chosen depending on where I am going and what I am wearing. I have also fallen for my new Dozier Straight Personal and am likely to include that.
If you carry more than me then you are definitely weird--'cause I know that I sure am! And I enjoy it!:D

5 to 7 was the norm, but just got a Blackwood Henchman SC and it carries perfectly as a bootknife so not make that 6 to 8.

The only thing that makes you weird is that you're asking if you're weird. Just remember you're the only normal person, its everyone else thats weird. :D

before i cut way back, i had at one point:

busse basic 5 - right hip
busse basic 3 - left hip
busse NIP right - tool pocket
benchmade 710 - left tool pocket
leatherman wave - right hip
victorinox soldier - jacket pocket
tool logic knife card - wallet
3 hibben throwers - bag
gerber lwhatever the name of it is - bag
busse basic 9 - bag

it was pretty rediculous...

I almost always carry 2. A small regular Sebenza in my mission wallet, and "something else" in my right front pocket or IWB. Lately that "something else" has been an Eric Blair modified Strider GB. I figure 1 is none and 2 is 1 when it comes to knives. Gotta have a back up.
And no, I don't think your weird. :D
John...

Depending on where I'm going I generally carry a Sig P245 and two Ka-Bars, a Mule and a Warthog both are folders

These days, I usually just tote a "tactical" folder and SAK. I try not to carry a bunch of stuff around that I don't need, but it's not hard to put a fixed blade and/or multitool on your belt, and leave the clipped folder, and SAK in their places. Throw in a neck knife, and something on the keyring, and suddenly you've got quite a loadout. Done it a bunch of times :)
