How many ball bearings are there in CRKT's IKBS (or how many open spaces)?

Ok I dont care about how many there are per sé, what I need to know is how many open spaces there are. I notice on CRKT's pictures there are BB's all the way around but when I open my wife's ripple one side has space for one more BB and the other side has space for 2 additional BB's. Am I somehow missing BB's or is this how it's supposed to be? Note I got the knife used so it may not have came that way and it seems to operate perfectly still (and yes I'm sure I didn't loose them, I was very careful as it was the first time I've ever disassembled an IKBS knife)

Mine also have space for 1 or 2 bearings on both sides. I have considered buying replacement bearings to see if filling the gaps will make a difference, but they flip well enough that it doesn't seem worthwhile.
