How many blades do you bring?

Hi all, I'm just wondering how many types of knives to bring to the woods. Hatchet, machetes and saw are all included. Do you guys bring a saw or a hatchet or use a large knife or a machete? I actually prefer a large knife myself because they tend to be thicker. I am just curious to what you bring? Do you guys follow the 3-blade system? Do you bring a small knife for fine cutting tasks or as a backup, if so, how long is it?

Out in the boonies I bring a Busse basic 9 and a small folder. Usually an Al Mar Sere 2K. That combo will do anything I need done.

I take my Buck Hatchet & a ESEE-3 plus my Spyderco Delica ZDP189 and between these 3 I can do just about anything
that comes along my way.!**

I spent last weekend in the mountains above Ruiodoso NM. An Esee-6 and a Victorinox Farmer was all I needed.

Out where? I use different setups for different situations based on the environment and my needs. Day hike will be a folder and a medium fixed blade like a Millie/pm2 and a bravo 1/Esee 4 or 6. Overnight trips up the mountain will be a folder and a larger fixed like a bravo 2. Longer camping trips will include a Junglas and/or an axe of some type, plus the previously mentioned with a couple backups. I dont backpack camp right now because all of this is done with young child in tow so weight isn't much of an issue.

Depends on what I'm doing and where. I haven't been out camping yet since making a lot of my "outdoorsy" knife acquisitions, only on day hikes, so it's usually a Camillus Barbarian (similar to ESEE 3 or RAT 3) in a Tek-Lok sheath attached to my pack and something else in a belt sheath. The latter is more often than not a sheathed folder such as a Ka-Bar Mule, Gerber Gator or Benchmade Adamas, but sometimes a more multi-role fixed blade like a SOG Team Leader Survivor TL-02 or Condor Multi Knife II. If I was camping, I would bring some manner of folding saw, hatchet or machete depending on location. Since the purpose of any camping trip for me would be tied in with hiking, and probably thus in one of the many state parks here, there are a number of restrictions on firewood that would dictate my choice of larger cutting tool(s).

To my bushcraft camp I take the BK-9 and the MTT

So far can't justify a third - might get the remora just to hang with the 9

Bring out where? I seldom carry a fixed blade unless I am headed for the woods. In the woods and for dayhikes, I typically have two knives (folder and fixed blade or a SAK, another folder, and a fixed blade) with me and sometimes will drop the small Silky folding saw into my daypack. If I know I'll just be roaming around in the woods, sometimes I'll have a short machete with me (12-16") and a folder or two (SAK and other). My fixed blade lately has been a Dozier Pro Guides, my misplaced Blackjack 125, or a a Becker BK-15 or BK-16.

Only two. One large and one small edc pocket knife. With a tiny bit of practice, the small machete doubles as a camp knife, chefs knife, and sandwich maker. The pocket knife does all the small stuff like cutting tent peg cord and such.

I recently changed my woods blade lineup. For a day hike I'll carry my Survive! GSO 4.1 and one of my Emerson folders. Extended trips I'll add a Busse TGLB to that. I haven't been able to try this setup out yet but I plan to soon.

I typically just do a day hike on the weekend. I carry a BK-2 and Silky Pocketboy in my small hydration pack and a folder or two in my pocket.

There's no way in hell that things touching my sandwich!!!
:D:p;)

It all depends on what I'm doing in the woods.
Day hiking? I'll have a Mora or BK14 on the belt, and a lightweight folder in the pocket.
Long distance backpacking? KaBar on the belt, lightweight folder in the pocket.
Car camping or base camp backpacking? Cold Steel Gurkha Kukri in the pack/at camp, KaBar on the belt, and a folder in the pocket. Often additional blades in the pack for the rest of my under-prepared group.
