How many holes is too many?

They look fine to me Chang. I don't think you weakened it any. If you have a mill, you might try milling out the center of the tank. I have one I made like that that I love as a carry knife. I also milled the area where you would expect a fuller to be. The knife is a delight to carry even though it's large.

I agree with Peter, Chang. I do mine the same way you do, then hollow grind the center of the tang on both sides to further reduce weight. I just try to keep the holes well spaced to prevent weak points and do not go too deep on the hollow grind. The knives feel wonderfully light in the hand. All of my tangs are dead soft so breaking is not an issue. A 2" contact wheel works great for hollow grinding the tangs. It is really easy to get the tangs flat once they are hollow ground due to the reduced surface area.

Your blades are lookin good Eric!! Are you sure theres not some Swiss in you?? :D

Those knives are going to break in half for sure.....
where did you get such a stupid idea??

chang, i put taper in the scales, i tryed tapered tangs and as long as you drill out some weight like you have done. they balance out great. beside's that way tom mayo won't feel so alone:D

OK Chang, it's time to start tapering those tangs. You gotta learn sometime.;)

Hey Mike, two of those knives have tapered tangs actually. :D

Hey guys, would it be too much if I drilled the holes, tapered the tangs, and then ground a hollow in the center? Thanks for the advice guys!

actually used to do that....now I just hog out a big hollow under the handle with a 3" wheel so I get a great glue bite and get rid of most of the material that prohibits quick tang tapering.
but actually, dont make stiff knives too much anymore.
