I was wondering how many knives you knifenuts have broken. Or have you ever used a knife so much that you had to finally retire the poor thing?

P.S. I can't wait to Cliff's reply to this one.
P.P.S. Photos would be a grrrreat way to honor these poor blades.

the only one I broke, was a gerber gator, I was just playing with it, and I dropped it against a log, and the pins fell out, thats not that big a deal, I was able to take it back, but that is the last time, I by gerber.

More than I care to rememeber, custom, production, my own knives... but I break most anything I put my hands on, sooner or later, anyway!
I am kind of tough on my equipment - from my computer to my car and everything in between. I think I could earn a living testing knives, hehehe!

Geez, Ivan! You'd have to be a gorilla to wreck the Standard 150 tanto you sent me for Christmas! Or else have a 10 foot long pipe to bend it. Like I said, you culd pry up manhole covers. BTW, I put a scary sharp edge on it... That K-100 steel is awesome!

Many, many, many......although, most of those have been intentional. Whenever something "NEW" hits the market, or something that makes extravagent claims, I often will get my hands on one, and do a bit of destructive testing. I have found over the years that it is often in the users best interest to steer clear of the knives that make those outlandish claims, as they usually turn out to be real disapointments.
On the other side, I have worn out a couple of my own pieces from the heavy abuse they see from me. I like to think that if a blade can survive riding on my side for 6 months or so, it will likely last the average user a life time. So far, so good.

I am still waiting to hear from Cliff. One time I sent my CS Trailmaster 2nd to a friend for a camping trip. My friend felt he needed a recurve knife and tried sharpening it to a recurve with a high speed grinder and burned the blade. That person is no longer a friend that I will lend any tools to. However, he did buy me a brand new Trailmaster.

Lets see...A-one, A-two, A-three. Three. Snapped the blade off of a SOG Sidewinder, dropped a Blackjack Mamba folder and chipped the blade so bad that it is now a folding butter knife, and just got stupid and left a Gerber Applegate folder in the bottom of my boat for 4 months and it rusted to s@#$.

But they were all good excuses for buying a new one.

As a kid I broke a hunting knife throwing it at a tree, and a small pocket knife trying to pry something with it.
I have not broken any knives as an adult. I think I learned my lesson as a youngster.

Keith.

I broke a Spyderco ladybug I had on my keychain. Used the tip to pry up on a can of coke and the tip snapped off.

I had Cold Steel Triple Action in a double edge. I was excited when I saw the claims about the lock. It was a very solid lock but the aluminum handles were another issue. My friend Chris and I had taken to one hand opening the thing akin to a bali. After three weeks, the aluminum stretched and the butt pivot screw fell out.

Moral: Though they are tempting, never buy a Cold Steel folder... their fixed blades are another animal altogether.

I've broke several of the old style Bucklite's. The back of that blade doesn't work very well as a screwdriver

I dropped my old-style Endura on the bathroom floor once too often, and the clip broke off. One of my friends threw my Native into the street, open, and the tip snapped off, I had to reprofile it. Used my first knife, a SAK, so often that I broke the scissors and blade lock, and eventually the scales fell off. Some idiot at work tried to use the EDGE of my Delica as a screwdriver.

On purpose a couple, just crappy steel, not worth the time to work with, too bad to give away.

By accident many many many!
