How many LEO's in this forum actually carry a Police model, and has it served you well?

Which model (G-10/Stainless/Other handled)?

Any comments on what makes it a good/bad duty knife?

I rotate an aluminum serrated Police model along with a titanium Lum and a Large Reeve tanto Sebenza.

The Tuffram / aluminum police is very flat and lightweight and sits nicely along the right front pocket seam where it deploys quickly using the drop. Also, the spyderco clip is one of the best ever, no worry of loosing it and I've had it since 94.
The Tuffram coating has kept the knife looking like new, I also have an uncoated aluminum police that I glass bead blasted the handles and it looks great!

I also have a Blanchard engraved Eagle model(with Lanyard) and a Titanium/ATS34 model that don't see any action at all!

One of the guys I work with is carrying a G-10 Police. Most of my cohorts seem to prefer the Matriarch or Harpy/Merlin though (not that I would have had any influence on them)
I usually rotate between my Orange Rescue and a Harpy, with a Spyderench tool riding on my duty belt.

The Police makes an excellent duty knife...says so right on the blade!

Ive carried my Police on duty allot, and one time even managed to melt the blade on it down to a nub, Spyderco promptly replaced it foe me, and I still carry it now, sits well in your pocket even for a big knife, feels good in the hand and cuts anything i have every tried to cut with it, overall a great knife.

though retired now, i carried a stainless police serrated edge often, rotated it w/a crawford KFF,BM 800S,EmersonCQC7B and a MT LCC. out of all of them the police was prob #2, w/the BM 800S #1. carried them all in my front pocket RH side. but i'm a knife nut, only a couple of people i worked with carried knives, and none of them carried any expensive stuff, mostly CRKT and spydie delicas, although one did carry a emerson commander upon reflection.

99% of the time now it's my PE Military on duty, with a toothed version on the way from GlassHartt. The other 1% of the time, believe it or not, it's a Mouse.

A good duty knife? Well I think it comes down to one primary factor: sharp. Almost any blade will do in a pinch, even my little Mouse has helped save a life. Clearly some situations might favor bigger, stronger, serrated and so on, but in the end the best knife is the sharp one you have with you when you need it. You wouldn't believe how many guys don't even carry a blade, or carry one with an edge like a butter knife.

The up side is that, with time and experience, most realize their need for a quality cutter. Once enlightened, they too go forth and spread the word. :)

I think the first Spyderco I carried as a Police Officer was a Serrated Hunter. I would guess somewhere around 85-86. Carried it for a very long time. I always carried it in the front waistband behind my gunbelt, slightly to the right, so I could access it with either hand if I needed to. The all stainless Police model was a little too long to carry comfortably that way, though I carried one for a few years clipped to the pouch on my body armor. In the last year or so, I've carried a Chinook or a PE Military in its normal spot in my waistband, seems to work pretty well, being a little wider, they seem to spread out thier size and doesn't poke me anywhere and, I learned to cant it a little. . Bottom line, for 17 years, I think a Spyderco,or two, has been with me every day at work, though not exclusivly a "Police" model....If I'm carrying any other model, does it not become a Police Model by default?

I've never found anything that can't be solved by one of those and a good SAK. (Either the Tinker or Soldier for me)

i have a g10 rookie which is a small police model. its a great little knife. spyderco discontinued them awhile back, i had to shop online to find mine. can't remember who i bought it from.

Fully serrated Police. Same knife since 1987... Serrations are getting a little short!!

I'm not a police officer, but I DID stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. :)
