Sometimes when I'm stressed out with an order or just need to relax, I make a minature. I was wondering, who else here makes minatures?

Kisu,
I have only made one miniature. My Grandfather had many straight razors. One of my first knifemaking projects was making a Tanto style knife out of one of the razor blades. The hollow grind was already there, I just had to shape the tip and remove some material for the hidden tang! I used Silver coins for the guard and the pommel. Next time I photograph knives, I'll include the Tiny Tanto and post a picture

There are a number of miniatures pictured on my web site made by Allen Eldridge. You can see them here
I have and still continue to make miniatures myself, but Allen has been a member of the Miniature Knife Society since 1989. He has won awards for his miniatures. I am learning a lot from him.

Hi, I read your question and I think that you have it backward. When I get stressed making miniature knives then I make a full size one. I have been making miniatures since 1983 or 1984 and gave them away for years. That is all they were worth then, pretty crude.
I thought if anyone had questions on miniatures, joining the Miniature Knifemakers Society, or etc. I might be of help. I have been the newsletter Editor and Society's treasurer for about 10 years. My e-mail is terrykranning@juno.com my web is http:kranningknives.tripod.com
Oh, and no. the MKS could not decide what an 'official' size was for a miniature. After all a miniature Bowie might be 5" long. Terry Kranning

Good to see you on the Forums, Terry, and good to see more people here are intereested in miniatures.
The first time I asked, we were really few on the forums.by the way, I have e-mailed you a few times, Terry. Did the messages get there?

I've made several, and am a member of the MKS. They are fun, usually quick, and often a challenge.

My mother when she was alive, made porcelain dolls. She made a pair once that was John Smith and Pocahantas and I made the sword and dagger for the Smith doll.Sword about5" oal and the dagger 1" oal with deerskin sheaths. It was fun and the pair of dolls went for $10,000 at a charity auction. They can be hard on the fingers though.Dave:)

i did make a miniature once when i was first starting out .. because i was told that they can be pretty quick . and i was sick of the blades that i was doing at the time ..

it was going pretty ok ... though my mind was clearly structured for a bigger scale ... i seemed to be always putting too much stuff to the tiny little blade .. nearly drowned it in glue ..
:D

it was looking half ok .. but that was before it went to my buffer .. and it went whipping out of my hands and god knows where the heck it ended up .. but ive cleaned my workshop 5 times since then and i still havent found it.

i believe when we next have a moon landing they will find a mysetious half finished knife that will just baffle all the top thinkers ..
:D

since then i leave the little things for the people who know what they are doing.
its safer that way.

D.

Ivan, No. your email did not make it to me. The last one that I have from you is probably 6 months old.
And who said they go fast? I must be doing something wrong. I don't know how long they take because I work on four or five projects at once but they seem to take too long. Have to time one sometime and see what I make per hour. Terry Kranning
