How many must sell to stay in production?

I am curious as to how many of a particular sku must sell in order for a knife to be produced or stay in production?

Hi Dennis. Looks like we're still delving into the world of economics.

I'm sure the quantities are different for each company. Some companies have to sell thousands per month or the model is dropped. Smaller companies can drop down to low hundreds and still keep the design alive.

Are you making money on the design or is it a flagship or "favor" model?

Do you need the model? If you have 10 new models waiting for production, you will think differently than if you have nothing new to offer.

Will the new model be more successful than the dropped model?

What is the long term life of the pattern? Can it be improved?

These are ojnly some of the considerations. Hope that helps.

It does help Mr. Glesser. I am just an old policeman trying to get a new career. I hope to one day work for a major knife company. I am trying to get a feel for the business side of it.
