Just looking back on the last year and I only managed to get 17 nights sleeping out and playing in the bush, a lot of this is due to having a new baby at home and a change to my working hours.

How many nights out do you all average in a year and what's your target if any for this year?

I'm going to try and get a couple of nights a month this year to work on "survival skills." I probably spent 45 days or so per year outdoors w/ the Army in Korea for the past couple of years, but we were fully supported, had heaters and tents, and at least one hot meal a day. I'm looking forward to getting out by myself (now that I have a little more control over my life!), or even taking the wife and kids out overnight and working on my "skills" while they just camp.

Between 30 and 35. 6 of those will be at summer camp where we will sleep in our own tents but eat at the mess hall and have toilets and warm showers. 13 days will be out of the backpack at one stretch in August. We will be resupplied once. The rest will be split between car camping and backpacking.

I think my days out are going to increase as the kids get older. I cannot wait until my eldest boy is old enough to have a blade.

all depends on what you call outside, sleeping on the sailboat count? then close to 60, not count about 40 or so. that is tent and canoe camping. not just a few nights i spent out in the hammock in the back yard. what is missing is 16 nights i was supposed to be elk hunting, but i had to give the hunt away for health reasons.

After a few years of being a chairborne outdoorsman I'm happy to say that 2006 was my best year ever.

21 days on the larapinta trail

8 days on the cape to cape

2 nights on the munda biddi trail

2 nights trying to seduce a lovely one on the blackwood river

Total = 32

probably 40-45- part of the time I will be teaching at an outdoors school living in a tent, the rest of the time will be in a lean-to.

Average 60-80 per year depending on courses etc...

Wish it were double:grumpy:

FAr cry from 200+ while serving:rolleyes:

Skam

hmmm good question. Well over 30 with the fishing/camping and hunting trips I do. I usually spend a week doing bushcraft and sleeping in built shelters etc. You never know though, the year is young.

It depends on whether or not my wife follows through with her threats.:o

Does coon hunting or catfishing all night count, because if it does I will log some serious time.:D

There sure are some dedicated 'outsiders' here. I'm going to use these numbers to tell the wife that it is normal to want to give up the comforts of home for the thrill and experiance of being outside.

I'll have to get the kids to help me gang up on here, not sure how they will do with a DVD to watch but, if they can light a fire and hack something to bits with a blade, I'm sure they'll come around.
