How many of us carry lives that we could depend on with our life? (food for thought)

You can never tell when you may be put in a situation where you may be fighting for your life. It could be a survival situation, it could be an armed attack, it could be anything. So is the nature of life. Do you carry a knife that you could really depend on? Or is it sitting at the house in a gunsafe while you carry a beater? Don't get me wrong a dependable knife does not need to be an expensive one. But ask yourself "is the knife I am carrying one that I would want with me if all hell broke loose?" I am guilty of sometimes carrying knives that function fine, but I wouldn't want with me if the $hit hit the fan. No more for me. I will carry a knife that I know I can more than depend on in a bad situation. A knife is a tool afterall, and it just may save your life. I would rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

food for thought.

Good point, Dennis. I tend to carry my Sebenza. Sometimes I go out at times I really don't think I'll need a knife, so I carry my BM 730 for backup anyway.

I consider a knife my most important safety tool, and have always carried the most reliable I could afford.

definite food for thought shootist....i tend to openly carry a small seb for daily tasks and also carry one of several doziers i have in an iwb kydex sheath that is caried in concealment with some sort of cover garment as well as a good reliable handgun (with my permit of course)....feverdoc

I ALWAYS carry two of my REKAT folders...A Sifu, and a Carnivour Cub. I can depend on these 2 knives to do WHATEVER I might need to get done.:).

Yes, I had been favoring 3" "small" folders, but events of late have moved more more toward 3.75" folders that inspire a little more confidence.

I have one knife on me for defense at all times. It is always a fixed blade that I know I can stake my life on. I have 3 that fit the bill so far. Fixed blades are sometimes hard to carry and conceal, so you have to look around and find one thet works good for you.

If the sh*t does hit the fan and I grab my fixed blade one thing's for sure - no lock to fold up on you! :D

If it ain't fixed, it's broken!

(no offense to you folder lovers. I carry one of those too) :)

I always carry two knives. One with the only purpose self defense and one with the mainpoint self defense (this means also suitable for incidental cutting tasks).
My selection criteria are (in this order): reliability, the foreseeable circumstances and design. No collecting/acquisition value restriction, I carry the best I own.

I always have either a Benchmade 710 or a 705 or a Spyderco with me at all times they are really fine knives and will handle any thing that I will run in to.

I have complete confidence in my small Sebenza. I always carry at least one other blade as a back up.

I always carry a Spydie Native, which should do the trick in a pinch. Probably about 75% of the time I carry a CS Mini Bushman in it's O/ST concealex sheath. Lastly, I always have a SAK Rucksack on board as well. I feel like the bases are pretty much covered that way.

This same line of thought could be applied to people who have their "good" guns locked up in the safe while they keep an old SW model 10 M&P in their car, nightstand, etc.

I will also note that preparedness comes in many forms, not just guns and knives.

Around town I carry a BM 710 or Emerson CQC7-B and I have every confidence in using them to chase the Goblins away. When I am camping or hiking I always carry a fixed blade, a SOG Seal 2000 or CS Recon Tanto.
Cheers,
Gord.

What knife you "can" carry is more important than whether or not it's quality is up to snuff.
I look for restrictions on all knives that are "visiably" displayed in the near future. That includes
knives with pocket clips. The publics mood is down on knives just now and it wouldn't surprize
me to see stores ban carry while shopping in them. For myself I've learned that a low profle is always
best.

My edc is a Large Sebenza, LM Pulse and a Victorinx pocket pal (at least lately) this combo can handl any task that I would need them for. For those larger task that require cutting nice round holes at a distance the Sig Sauer is handy as well:)
Stay safe,
Chad

I'm tending toward the larger, "heavy-duty" folders for daily carry, like my large Sebenza, or SERE 2000.

I carry an EKI Commander and a Newt Livesay neck knife with me 99% of the time I am away from home.

Lately I have had a CRKT Ryan 7 in my left pocket as well.

And I carry a Gerber Tool all most all the time as well.

I would trust my lift to any of these blades totally and completely.

You wont find my carrying something I wouldnt trust my life to, in any situation.
