How many of you actually use your custom knives?

I've decided to start buying some customs and higher end productions. I have no problem buying a used $300 Sebenza or Strider PT and using it. Nor do I have a problem using a $500 plus custom. Does anyone on here actually use their customs? Of the productions I am keeping, I plan on relegating them to the truck, boat and camping gear, and using the higher end productions and customs as EDC's, for camping, utility. Basically, I plan on using every knife I buy. Now, anything that costs over a $1000 bucks I would be wary using, for fear of losing the money I put into it. I have two customs, and use one, but I only paid $180 for it, and the maker expressed that he makes knives to be used, not put on a shelf or in a safe.

I've used some of mine. There are some that are highly unlikely to see use. Generally for me the cut off point seems to be around the $200-250 range, below which I'll consider using, or sharpening even if I don't use. Above that I start to get skittish about doing anything that alters their as is state.

Current Users:

Custom: Lairson Peronal Carry II, Morrow Double Bladed Trapper, (soon to be) Matt Roberts Camp Knife, Filicietti Bowie.

Higher End Production: 2 William Henrys.

Not used ....... a few :D

I use two of my customs and don't use the other six. The knives I use would both be valued at $500.00 or more. The ones I don't use are my bowies and that is because I never intended to use them.

I have a TNT in my pocket as I type, and two more at home. All three are users, though I try not to beat on 'em. I'd like to get a couple more, and they'd be users, too!

I use a fixed 400 custom daily.

Then again I also use a 70 production folder daily as well.

I suppose what works best and fits my needs best is what gets used. Not so much how much it set me back.

I will be using my Instigator when it returns home. I carry and use a $400 knife. I used my Striders, and I use my Mission all titanium knife. I will be using my Rick Hinderer as well. I use my Sebbie!!

I carry a Kit Carson small model 21 and a Don Robinson Wharncliffe folder. Oh, and a Terzoula ATCF in a G2 Sheath. For fixed a Phil Wilson in S30V, a Lamey
Utility (still goin' strong, Matt), a Criswell small fixed. I , also, was using a P. Wilson fillet knife in S30V but now that I'm in the desert it just sits in a drawer.

I use my own and other customs that i have through here. I usually keep a knife around for at least a week or two just cutting and "feeling" it out etc. Big knives are especially fun to cut with, so your missing out on the true joy of ownership if they are sitting in a safe all the time.

Win, im glad that little knife is still working for ya! I was thinking about it the other day when i was driving home from Fikes house.

well ive bought 2 and trades 11 in 2wks..got tired of opening the cases and seeing alot of knives that arent being carried-used....did keep one to stare at...

Picked up a used lcc as an edc beater...and keep some productions in the truck and drawer...

I just hate to see a nice custom with scratches-chips etc...not because of price-i feel its a pain to have them refinished and they never look as nice..

Part of the enjoyment to me is using a fine knife. There are a bunch that I never intend to use or carry. (Bowies, daggers, and fancier multiblades and folders) There also are a few that I enjoy using. (all but two (Fong, Ralph) ran well under 500.) Carson lockback. (always on me) Cook Lochsa. Bradshaw stag gunstock. Doziers. Darrel Ralph DA Apogee. (My dad carries a matching small D/A Apogee) Richard Rogers ironwood slipjoint. Michael Fong folder. (fancier small dress knife.) Small P.J. Tomes lockback. Tony Huffman 3 blade whittler. A little damascus folder by Art Washburn. Personally, I would not enjoy collecting knives as much if I did not have a few to carry and use. Many of the knives I use were made by good friends and that also adds to the enjoyment of using them.

I dont lurk here very often as I only own one custom. It is a 4'' fixed blade and I use it alot. I helped design it and the maker suggested the Cocobola for the handle, taking my intended use and budget into consideration. And at a reasonable price.
I included Gus' quote as the best way to phrase my thought on using a special knife.

To me, what is the point of owning a fine knife, if you don't use it and really appreciate it BY using it!!

Most of my kitchen cutlery are hand made knives $125.00 and up pieces. I enjoy using them, there fun. My EDC knife is a Chew Auto which I have carried for years or my new purchase, a Tom Ferry Timascus/s30v folder.

With the exception of one art knife (a Jot Khalsa folder with Eggerling mosaic damascus blade), every custom knife I own is designated a "user." I prefer knives that are meant to be used, regardless of price (and that includes the >$1,000 category).

I use my Don Cowles' knives almost every day, just not the same one every day. I do have one of Don's knives in black lip pearl that only gets played with on sunny days and it is not used for general cutting purpopses.

I use a 8” kitchen knife from MS Jerome Anders for cooking which about $500.-.
In additon, I carry and use one Walter Brend and one Mad dog every day, both value over $600 each.

Knives are meant to be used IMO. I use all of em. Even my expensive ones get pocket time and use.
