Been thinking about the smooth look for a while...wondering how many of you guys (or gals!) do the shaved head thing?

For the gadget portion, what do you find works best? HeadBlade? Mach III? Shaving oil?

i shave it in the summer, mainly because of the heat, as well as the low maintenance aspect to it.

i think i'm going to stop, however, cause i look like such a dork. and you know, i pick up all the chicks in the summer. ;)

i use a cheap buzzer (conair) to take it down as far as it can go, then finish it off with a mach3 w/ shaving gel. i inevitabily end up with a few cuts, and the very top of my head is difficult and kinda painful to shave. but i have a funny shaped head.

i would recommend against shaving your head, unless you're going to keep it that way for some time, or you aren't concerned with personal image. if you plan on growing it back you'll have to deal with the 'tard buzz for a few months until you get some length.

I used to do it when I was back in my teens and 20's. I've used several methods. The most memorable was sitting on a brick on the side of the road in India and being shaved by a street barber. It was only a few cents for the shave, but his razor was dull and it hurt like #8!! as he scraped the hair off my head. He didn't cut me though.

My favored method was to use hair clippers like in the movies when some one gets inducted into the marines. It's quick, painless, and you don't cut yourself. It grows out anyway, so why not start with some stubble?

If you're going to use a razor you probably want to use the clippers first to get most of the hair out of the way anyway.

Warning, the top of the head sunburns easily. Those of us with hair tend to forget that until we shave our heads.

Used to shave it at least once a day, I liked the Kojak look. I found that the Mach 3 and gell worked best for me.

I used to keep mine completely shaved. I took it as short as it would go with hair clippers, then ran a wet washcloth over my head and shaved the rest off with a razor. I didn't find shaving gel to be helpful at all.

If you live in a cold area of the country, I highly recommend shaving it at least once during the winter. The feeling when you walk out in the cold wind is exhilerating

I've got some buddies who shave their heads close (especially when the weather gets hot), but I never did. Never had the urge, not even in my suedehead days. :)

At my age, I hardly have any hair anyway. I just get a #2 buzz cut, which is pretty close.

It's a constant source of annoyance to me that while my head hair is mostly long gone, the hair on my ears and nose grows like a weed.
Makes me wonder about my stand on evolution sometimes :D, what would be the advantage of a thick crop of ear-hair?

I usually shave bald on April Fool's Day. Usually just clippers and a razor and then let it grow to about an inch and do it again.

I didn't do it last year because the end of the previous summer I grew a beard for a trip to Alaska and by the time the 9 months rolled around to shaving time I was SO used to having the beard that I didn't want to get rid of it and didn't think it would look right if I were bald with a beard. So I kept the beard and still have it and it's getting closer to shaving time again.

This year I may shave my head and leave the beard and see if I get strange looks. I'm only in my early 30s so it WILL look odd.

Being doing it now steady for the last 8 years, I use mach 3 and shaving foam or sometimes just ordinary hand soap.
I find mach 3 to be all I need both for beard and head shaving.

I am a headshavin' guy! Will never grow it back! Mach 3 works best for me. I have a headblade, takes some practice, but easier to just shave face and head at same time with regular razor (mach 3). I use "gel" rather than "foam". "Oil" works fantastic, but it totally mucks up the razor so you only get maybe two good shaves. Dull razors give you bumps and cuts. I look younger, fitter and just plain better, but you need the right shaped "dome"...problem is you can't tell if the dome is the right shape until you take the hair off. Go for it. If you don't like it it grows back. Josh

I shaved my head last year - felt the cold in the mornings and had to wear a hat all the time to avoid sunburn.

Recently I have done the opposite - grew my hair long for the first time since I was in primary (grade) school. Chicks dig long hair I have noticed - even if mine is flecked with more than it's fair share of grey.

I have been shaving my head for about 5 years now. I'm 31 years young and at the front there isn't much groing anymore. I use Mach3 for my face and my head. When the blade for my face starts getting a little dull I start using that one on my head. Before shaving I used a hairclipper at about 3 mm so the difference wasn't that big. My wife is used to it now but didn't really like it in the beginning. Bald man rule :D

When I started shaving my head in the spring I started getting the strangest compliments. "Hey! You know, you have a good-lookin' head!"

It has side effects:

#1. When it's really hot outside and I walk into an air-conditioned building I get a migrane headache! (Feels like I ate ice-cream too fast.)

#2. No protection. You really have no idea how much you really bump your head until it starts leaving a mark.

#3. More obvious when it get's dirty.

#4. People like to touch it when it get's stubbly.

#5. Eat too much chile and you will see just how much your head sweats.

LOL! :D

#6 I can detect subtle changes in room temperature and slight breezes so I can uaually tell if someone walks up behind me. (Sorta like sonar.) :D

I thought I'd revive this thread because it's that time of year again. I shaved my head on Thursday night and really worked my butt off doing it - started with clippers then 3-blade quality disposable - so I figured today I'd look for something to make the job easier for next time. I think I'm going to try that Gilette with the battery inside that vibrates and if I don't like that I might try a headblade. I just checked out their website and it looks good. I hold my razor right at the head when I shave my head anyway, so that looks like it might work better.

I have shaved my head every year for about the last five years. I call it my "annual haircut". Shave it off in spring for a few weeks, then let it grow back. By the time winter rolls around there's plenty of hair for insulation ;) . Funny this thread came up, it's about that time! :D BTW, I use a Wahl clippers to cut the hair down to stubble, and thena a Mach3 and gel.

I've been shaving my head since I was maybe 19 , I'm 38 now. I hate messing with hair like a prettyboy (no offense to you hairheads out there :D )
A lot of chicks love it and the ones that dont are usually high maintenance so who cares lol. I'm told I look mean but I'm a nice guy once you get past the stubble , anyways it keeps people from messin with me.
I use a set of Oster clippers , cost me about 20 bones , had em for years , clean and oil after each shave and they last for years , imaine how much money you save on haircuts (more $$ for knives and gadgets :D ).
I shave it bald every so often , in the shower with a camping mirror , soap and hot water.
