How many of you stripped this weekend?

I did, and I can't stop. First was the IZULA that I polished, then the one I left patina, now my 4. This one came out like it was bead blasted when the coating came off. Well, unless I wanted it to rust at the first sign of water, that had to go. But, I wanted to preserve some of it for grip on the handle. Speaking of handle, prior to putting the oranges back on, I smeared the underside with EZZOX to protect the bare steel within should water manage to creep inside. I then began the process of applying a satin finish. All I used was a Scotch Bright pad and commenced to rubbing. After about 5 minutes a side, you get the finished product. Then, I spent about a solid hour convexing the edge and voila, I have this baby. I love it.

Thanks for looking.

And my EDC baby with patina and new Phillips head screws. I like them better then the flat ones that came with the HEST.

I am part of that group also...

After last weekend's epic 10 mile hike in the forest with frequent stops to bash resinous pine stumps with my Junglas, the coating was shot and had to go. My Izula was stripped several months back, and is now a full blown, beat up, awesome looking user knife. Have a look...

Something just looks right about a stripped and polished Izula. Got a run down on how you did it posted up anywhere?

I first soaked it in citrus stripper for 4 days, scrapped off the coating, then hit the buffer for an hour or so. I used a cut and color bar first, then a blending bar. This is tough 1095 and it took quite a lot of effort. When you strip a blade, you end up with a pretty rough steel with pits and tooling marks. All that has to be worn away. I like the end result, but, lets be honest, after that much work, you would be nuts to actually use the knife.

Tag, again I offer to buy that shoddy stripped Izula.. ;)

Nice work guys, If you remember I started polishing one of my Izzys, just way to much time involved with all power tools even.. I've since patina it and its my go to izzy.. makes cutting a breeze for sure..

my 4 is probably gonna be stripped very soon as the coating is wearing.. which means its being used for its intended purpose..

Rob,
Thanks again for the offer. I just don't know if I could let it go. It looks so good hangin' there on the peg board above my workbench.

Have fun stripping the 4. Very gratifying.

Don't you just love that color. It has such a nice warm feel to it and gives it a personality all it's own. I have nothing against the coating. I think it is the best in the industry. But, it is fun to "play" with these knives isn't it?
