How many people EDC their compression-lockers?

Although there are several compression-locking knives out now, there doesn't seem to be much talk on them, asides from the Gunting which can be considered a specialized tool.

How many people actually EDC them? Or is it just that you prefer the other designs from Spyderco?

I have been carrying my grey ce salsa(alum version) off and on. Lock is ambi with no risk of closing(white knuckle or slight twist) it when used with either hand.

It's a great sheeple blade. Beleive I have a review up both of the passaround from DaveH and my personal one... both back around early december 02.

I can't seem to get used to a compression lock. The one I saw on the Para Military looks better though.

I think the compression lock is one of Spyderco's greatest inovations in recient years. It's definately one of my favorites. More ambi than a liner lock, and a lot smoother than a lock back.

I carry my Ti-Salsa and Lil' Temp whenever I can. I would say the partial success of both would be down to the compression lock.

Compression lock on the Para-Military ?
Damn, you've just made my day a lot better :D

I EDC'd a L'il Temp. for a while. My gripe with it was the clip; it ate pockets with a vengance. The comp lock was alright but not a favorite. It seems hell-for-strong but it did occasionaly pinch me when I opened it and it is not as ambi to me as a mid-lock or liner lock. I'm anxious to see how it works on the para.

I carry and use my inlay Vesuvius(PE) every day. I got a good one. Great knife. Sorry to hear that it is going to be a lockback, but things change.

I carry my G-10 Lynx (Trakker proto) most days. Gets lots of positive comments. I also carry my inlay Vesuvius(PE) as I got a good one too.

I have a Salsa and until I started wearing shorts, it was my EDC public friendly knife.
The compression lock is great. Albeit left hand closing is tricky, I don't need to do it. Much less risk of twisting and unlocking the liner.

As we continue to refine and evolve the lock, we'll make more models with it. I believe it has good value, but like any new concept, there is a learning and development curve.

I've had no problems with the lock on my Lil Temp but I agree completely about the clip. It ate holes in the pockets of several of my favorite pants. It also sits high and while it makes the knife easy to access it makes it too high profile for urban carry, imho. I like everything about the knife except the clip but I had to replace it as my EDC because of the clip.

I carry my Lil' Temp pretty often, it's a little too heavy to EDC.
The compression lock is a great lock, simple yet strong. The best things, it seems, are the simple things. I want more knives with compression locks. The new Mili, I think, is suppose to be a compression type. Waiting, waiting!

We've improved the clip quite a bit on the Lil' Temperance. The original vendor didn't have it down. They are now finished "in house" and we've had no recent complaints.

Well, I'll be happy to field test the new clip as soon as the new S30V L'il Temps hit the market. :D :D :D

For the last 4 months or so, the Gunting has been my EDC. I work in a 200-person government office that has no restrictions on knives and I do carry it on my belt. My immediate co-workers are used to seeing it, but it does raise eyebrows. I'm looking forward to the new Lil Temperance models because, after handling someone else's recently, I plan to start carrying the the LT in the building. Depending on how much I like it, I may or may not replace the Gunting as my outside-the-office EDC. I suspect that I will carry the Gunting to the office, then switch it out for the LT, since I like the Gunting so much.

Thanks for the information, Sal. Can we buy just the new clip?

I don't have a compression lock knife (I'm considering getting a Lil'T eventually, though is a little too heavy for a FRN lover like me) but my wife has a Vesuvius and I carried it a few times. Not quite my style, too fancy with that blue inlay. But otherwise, the knife has great ergonomics and the lock is rock solid. It happens to pich occasionally and that's the only insignificant complain I could make. My wife used to carry it all the time, but she got that Chinook which is her EDC now, so she only takes the Vesuvius now and then.

If you are referring to the lockback comment in the latest catalog, I believe Sal mentioned that it was a typo in the catalog and it was still going to be a Comp. lock for a while to come. Somebody please correct me if I am wrong.

I have a grey PE Salsa I carried EDC for a few days,
but I found that I didn't care for the compression
lock. It seems dangerous to close one-handed - it
drops down onto my index finger, and although I never
ended up cutting myself, it seemed inevitable.

Yes, I could obviously use 2 hands to close, but it often seems
like when I'm using a knife, I'm already using a hand
to hold onto a rope, string, etc. and I don't want
to let go, and then have to take the time to retrieve
it from wherever it falls.

I guess I just only like lock-backs...I don't trust
a liner lock, either...

BTW, is anyone interested in trading a lock-back or
fixed blade Spydie for an almost NIB condition Salsa?

The Gunting is still my EDC. If it had no opening ramp it would be my EDC. Find a pic of a Gunting, use a card or other object to cover the ramp, and see a very conventional blade. I like large, ergonomic handles, and I can tell by feel which way the blade is oriented.
