i keep coming across this. why does everybody i know like searations on their knife. i dislike them but i dont hate them. could i have some feedback?

I don't like them. They certainly have their place, but for my EDC needs they just take up useful blade space.

I have found many non-knife guys really like them but when you get more in to them many knife guys want nothing to do with them.

Serrations have their uses, but I generally avoid them.

I use a serrated for cables, cable ties or pvc type plastic, otherwise I prefer pe

I don't think I'll ever get another knife with a serrated blade. The only exception would be a folder with two blades, one plain and one serrated.

I tried the partially serrated blades about five years ago. Didn't care for them overall. The look cool. I now only purchased fully serrated blades or plain edge. The fully serrated are for special use needs but day in day out, I carry plain edge knives. A Vic SAK model has both a large plain edge and their finely serrated seat belt blade. I find this knife useful, but it is thicker than I like for pocket carry.

Serrations are fine as long as they take up the entire length of the blade, or vice-versa, none of it.

Combo edges just don't work for me, they don't have enough continuous surface of either edge to be useful.

Exactly. Some things are a little too tough to slice through, but I like to keep my cuts nice and clean instead of just ripping through everything

I prefer plain edge myself. I think I have 2 Kershaws with the scalloped serrations and I dont mind those very much but they dont get much carry time either.

I like combo edges.

Try to cut a hard plastic clothes hanger with a plain edge.

Now do it with serrations.

Now try it with a tree branch, wet fire hose, cut a chunk out of an old tire, ect.

Sometimes you need serrations. Sometimes you just need a knife.

To me a combo edge gives me both.

I prefer slicers and thus plain edges. However, there are things that serrations handle very well like zip ties, rope, and wire. I am considering getting an ESEE-3 with the combo edge just to see what that's all about. All my other ESEEs (and spydercos, and benchmades, and Moras) are plain edge and will probably stay that way. Right now my only serrations are a Gerber LMF, a Gerber EZOut, and the Victorinox Soldier Knife. I wish the Soldier Knife had a plain edge blade too, a small one.

I can't stand serrations.
I see a lot of non-knife people with serrations. I'm not sure why. I guess people they think they look cool?
I like a plain edge because it gives me more room to cut with and I can do anything serrations could do for my EDC needs just as well with a plain edge. Plus they look better. =]

I consider serrations just a kind of jimping on the blade edge :)

Actually, I have a BM with partial serration and find it very useful in cutting those plastic packaging clamshells that everything comes in. Just cuts right through.

I don't like serrations. I haven't found any use for them in my normal EDC use. I just try to avoid them as much as possible. Maybe someday I'll warm up to them.
