How many of you out there have snapped the tips of paras and millis??
Just wondering. I'm not bashing them, I have one and am questioning the needle like tip.

I've had my para for over a year now and, unless I seriously abused it, I'd be hard-pressed to snap the blade.

Carried a Millie for years and have yet to snap the tip. I will admit the knife is not abused at all.

I have had 3 Militarys and 2 Paras: no snapped tips. I wouldn't pry with it, but I have scraped with mine and cut a lot of plastics with it and have yet to snap any of the tip off. If you did snap a little off, the grind on the spine allows you to change the angle ever so slightly on a belt grinder and return the tip to sharp with minimal sanding (compared to a drop point or clip point style blade.

Had a long post typed out, then realized I only needed to say one thing: don't pry with the tip, and it'll be fine.

QFT.

The Millie and Para do have nice, sharp points but I don't consider them particularly "needle-like". I have had knives with much finer points (the original Spyderco Police comes to mind), which never gave me problems (I just don't mistake them for screwdrivers or pry bars). ;)

Tips dont break unless (you break them) Ive owned almost a dozen para milis over the years.. And I never broke a tip.. I even pryed out staples.. And did some chisle work with my D2 para.. With no issues.. If you enjoy prying, which I doubt..
Then you should get something else.. otherwise.. This knife is mint..

I severely rounded the tip with basic use and re-sharpening on a PM and had to do a pretty significant reprofile to the tip. The tips are just a hair pointy, be nice if there was a bit more sweep from spine to the tip imho.

I have taken the last tiny bit off the tips of a couple of mine, but I'm talking about 1/32" or less. Maybe a fourth of the width of the edge bevel. Usually they fall victim to hardened drywall screws hidden by mud when I'm doing sheetrock repairs.

I wouldn't call them delicate or needle-like. I wouldn't call them crowbars, either.

After sharpening my D-2 Military to some insanely thin angle I broke the tip at least twice, then decided to sharpen the tip thicker than the rest of it.

had I left the tip at stock thickness it wouldn't have been a problem.
(Once again we're talking about 1/64" breaking off, nothing huge.)

i was looking for the d2 post lol. d2 is very brittle so if youre afraid of breaking the tip get the s30v version

Only have one, the CF/S90V, and so far no problems. I love this knife. I use it and take good care of it. I like for my stuff to have what some call "honest wear" and try my hardest to prevent any "d'oh" damage. ;)

No tip issues with my BG42 Military or S30v Paramilitary, except that I love the splinter picker tip.

The tip on the paramilitary or the military may be fine but I’m not sure I’d call them delicate. The tip on the OD-1 on the other hand is delicate, needle like and I still don’t intend to use the knife in such a fashion as to break off the tip.

i thought it was the other way around... with s30v chipping and d2 not chipping. am i mistaken?

At the hardness that these two steels run its not uncommon to hear about chipping problems with either of them. When S30v was new it was a lot more common then it is now (they hadn’t quite worked out the details of that specific heat treat yet). That being said I’ve never had any serious problems with either steel.
